I live close to / grew up near the Cott area that you are interested in. I may be able to help you out with a wheel chair that can be taken into the water. It is called a hippocampe beach wheelchair - www.hippocampe.co.uk/.

Cott council have a committee that looks into access issues to the town's beaches and I will ask around and get the contact details to you. I would imagine that you need to get a bit of firepower behind you to get any council to move - but this committee may be a good start.

Let me know what you reckon about the beach wheelchair, no sweat if you're keen on trying something else.

Hello, yeah out all the 'beach' wheelchair designs there are the one I liked the most -compared to most they look somewhat normal.

Some of those 'beach' wheelchairs look like spaceships...

.... it also isn't as bulky as a 'beach' wheelchair and I'm maybe could be designed slightly more compact....

I'm bored.

From a thread on another forum:

That's all you need - a cart that fits your chair on top.

Can you go in other people's cars? If there's a suitable day, can you come in my Landcruiser and head out of town a bit? Or do you need special seat belts etc?

Yeah I can, might need some help tho' getting up.

As for the pics you posted, you know what they say -simple is always the best.

I need to buy one of these down the track tho'

http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/holden-rodeo-1986-11885232?vertical=Car&cr=14&eapi=2&__N=1216

(but it could seriously be worth looking at getting a cheap 4x4 or ute and not just for myself or this project)

Unless you wanna swap cars Legion?

But seriously great idea mate, it would be easy enough and cheap enough to do

With the worry of sounding like a daft ignorant prat, can we put the tracks straight onto the chair?

There's companies in the states that make them for hunters.

OK yesterday I bought the aluminum needed for the base but instead welding it from scratch, I found a piece (80 cm x 1.2 meters) of prefabricated aluminum walkway strip, similar to the picture below... and I also brought some kite buggy wheels from someone last night, he also gave me the front forks from his old kite buggy as he doesnt need them...... aluminum of course.

Count me in for 50 Kaz.
The wavejet sounds like a good solution.

OK here it is upside down and partly assembled .... will hopefully finish it by the end of next week, it still needs a rear axle to connect the wheels and additional lateral supports.

Heres the link:

Can you tell me if the wavejet comes fully fitted in to the board or do you need to get a board designed, balanced and then fit it?
I know getting to the beach is important, but surfers have had that problem from the day the search for the perfect wave started.
If you have the equiptment first and can show you need access to the beach for a reason, you are more likely to get Government help for beach access.
I'm willing to do what I can to help out, I can't promise anything but just canvas as many people I know who may be able to help out.

I recon you could use any board, just have to modify it to suit.
Even better I have had a look at model boat jet motors for the same purpose.
The units are much cheaper and the contols could be easly made to be ontop of the board for easy access.

This is the sort of thing Im thinking about, one or two of these. They have enough thrust if you use two.
