Sydney's not too bad at the moment, we're not getting the bad storms that are hitting the far south coast but the swell did creep up today. Most of it is not too mal friendly but you could find a decent wave if you looked.
The wind didn't quite suit it but I had a good session at Collaroy this morning and a few came through with some good size.
Best thing of all was a pod of bottle nose came right up close and put on a show for us, have you ever noticed how everyone out in the water tends to sort of cheer up when that happens?
I went back in the late arvo just with the camera expecting it to be much bigger but it wasn't so I took some pics anyway just so I could have and excuse to stay and watch from the rock pools.
I wanted to see what DY point was like, it was very longboard unfriendly, but the shorties and the speed bumps were having a ball.
This was Collaroy in the late arvo, some good ones were still coming through but I was too slow to get a good pic. The demographic had changed a bit when it got late and the shorties were starting to take over from the mals.
I just had to show you this guy doing the dropknee, he’s there often with a mate, they’re youngish but real stylemysters.
With these dudes it’s all frantic crosstepping, toes on the nose, pirouettes, back turns, switch footing, reverse paddle take offs, you name it, these boys will have a go at it. And under no circumstances would they ever be caught dead using a leash, no matter what the conditions.
That’s why I had to show you this; a rider less board, one of them tried a maneuver just after takeoff from a good way out, lost it, and the board went straight for the rocks and almost took a couple of guys out of the game.
A shorty tried to grab it and although he lost it, he managed to change its direction so it was heading to the beach but the poor sod who lost it had a monster swim to get it back.
I shouldn’t laugh, but I did.
