My issue with my shoulder stems from a calcific spur as well as calcific tendinitis (calcification of the tendon).
Two weeks ago I had the tendon needled under ultrasound to try to break up some of the calcium deposit throughout the tendon, they then injected cortisone to finish off.
Typically I get very poor results from the cortisone, so given the fact my shoulder is currently feeling better than it has for a long time I'm hopeful this procedure may have helped this time. Or maybe the cortisone has hit its mark.
Next step would be surgery which I'm absolutly happy to do if it means solving the issue. I'm just over having to constantly be protecting the shoulder with every movement you'd normally make without a second thought.
Vanders, I used to go to an elderly Chinese Acupuncturist. She told me that whenever something hurt, to keep doing whatever I was doing for just a little longer each time it got painful. But not long enough to cause a severe injury. I too have a rotator cuff calium build up, but I've managed it to the point where I rarely notice it now. I've also a list as long as my left leg of the injuries this method has cured with a little help from the gym, Pilates, acupuncture, chiropractic and surfing.
I started surfing to get fit, having just given up the **** (shut up OB

) I had trouble getting enough wind for more than 20 minutes of paddling. Then came the lower back issues, shoulder pain, wrist pain and sometimes neck and upper spine pain. Take my left wrist, Scaphoid joint was heavy with arthritis and calcium build up. Acupuncture and a serious bit of massage with a hard backed piece of plastic cured it within about 8 weeks. Before I couldn't do any bicep training, now I don't feel it.
Lower Back - Various stretches AFTER exercise, including pigeon, hip flexor and figure 4. I won't go into them here, Scotty's eyes are already glazing over.
Essentially, keep pushing the boundaries of the pain. Build the muscles and nerve condition to be able to tolerate the changes your body goes through while you improve your surfing and overall fitness. PM me if you want details.....
