When do you stop riding a longboard and start looking for a gun given the volumes and basic dimensions can be quite similar?

I have a 9'4" longboard that I have caught 6 foot waves on and an 8' 2+1 semi-gun I have caught 8 footers on. My previous semi-guns were mainly 7'2" for waves three or four times head high (6-8). My longboard is fairly heavily rockered so I get its not a log, but longboard vs longboard gun vs gun? It all gets a bit confusing.

The MC looks a burster btw. Maurice cole?

I stop riding my longboard when it gets over 2 foot after that its all shorties up to 8 foot...then its gun time

So is a longboard gun meant for the same waves as a gun or is it just a fancy way of saying big semi-gun?

From the looks of things on a LB gun the throw the width a bit further forward and make em a but wider than a semi gun but IMO there isn't that much difference

... either way I think Big Spazz will deffo end up with a pearler and Simmondo will deffo be off Bob's Christmas card list if he buys a non-Bob brand

Cool. That's what I thought. What is the negative aspect of the wide point forward? I ask because the last two boards I have ordered have had that. Both were aimed at up 8 foot. The last one is meant to stretch to 10 if forced (that is I find myself out on a 8' day and that big set wanders my way and I have to go ).

I would say added swing weight and maybe a very small chance of having more rail in the water if your turning off your front foot, which is generally offset by a small amount of vee and a narrower tail....I like my baords with teh width forward it just seems to make sense to have the meat under your chest where the weight is when paddling...and to be honest I'm not doing too many turns when it gets big enough to pull out the guns

Thanks again Tux. You reinforced my experience. They certainly paddle better. Having said that, fitness, youth and courage make a big difference. The biggest waves I ever caught were on a needle Nev that was 7'8" x 2 1/2 x 17 3/4. Very mid 90s.
