A friend just bought a PSH 9'6" wide and although I rode one recently I didn't take much notice of the shape and make-up at the time but after puting a deck grip on the new one today I realised the amount of work that must go into getting them right.
I rekon they look great but i did notice the thickness through the middle is carried so close to the rail. This would make it super stable but I would have thought with the extra width you could round the deck more to get less volume in the rails so you could tip it over more easily into bottom & top turns and get the rails to bite more.
If boards are to go 8' or less with high performance shortboard type surfing in mind, I think thickness will be the key. And after looking at the PSH 9'6 wide, width and the deck curve (top) could end up being almost as important as the bottom shape.
What I'm thinking is to keep volume in an 8' board you would need to go thicker, and to get a good rail shape you would need a step rail or more agressive curved deck, and if you went the curved deck option a bit more width would help with stability.
Am I on the right path here?
Can someone build one and let me know how it goes.

8' x 29.5" x 4.8" with curved deck w/ concave in nose to dbl concave through the middle into a nice V in the tail. Rounded square tail and slight pulled in nose. Please!?!

Note: The only thing I have ever shaped is a sailboard fin, so I'm not talking from any experience. I'm just interested in how it all works.
