I'm guessing a helmet provides more leverage for water to grab hold of, so you get worse neck injuries. No point having a perfectly preserved skull if your neck's broken.

Are you guys for real? I was getting at the fact that it's a load of macho BS actually. The new Gaths are light as and have very little water resistance.

Yeah I agree, the shell sits about 10mm off your head and the neo on the front hugs your head.

Did anyone see or hear what happened to that chick yesterday? Sounds like she was towing and
things went seriously wrong, wearing a number of monsters on the head. You know something is
wrong when you're coughing blood and blood's coming out of ya ears.

Re the helmets, I used to wear Gaths for years on the goat boats where you get seriously flogged and stopped because it was putting too much strain on the neck cause mine is rooted from years of shaping - so I know what your saying. But this was with the old heavy and restricted vision models - new ones are a different ball game altogether.

My goatboat mate landed on his head this year in Samoa and split his helmet in two and definately would be dead without it, so I just bought another one. I still can't see the logic in not wearing one on a SUP out Chopes at 6-8 foot but each to their own.
