It's easy to see why when SUP is clearly superior.

In WA at the moment there are a few threads running on FB about the same issue and I could feel the tension on the water last night. It's a shame people use the word "HATE" so openly within a public arena, I HATE terrorists not other water users, I class other water users as friends, yes all of them. Anyways I surf, sup, kite even used to windsurf years ago so see all angles of the argument. Too be honest water sports are getting more popular with more people on the water, fact, we can't change that and won't be able to influence the future. If I SUP I get dropped in by longboarders, shortboarders, other SUP's. If I surf I get dropped in by longboarders, shortboarders, other SUP's see where this is going. I don't shout and scream like a four year old retard. If the rider is reckless and endangering other water users I will have a quiet word, often they don't even realise what they have done and are quite apologetic, sometimes they ignore me ! Things will get worse and with the introduction of foil surfboards and SUP's to the line-up I guess there will be a new target to "HATE". These boys will be picking up waves far outside and have priority, I am sure you won't want to drop in on one of those floating guillotines.

Different story if it's 10' and you're saving me getting cleaned up. Or if there are more waves than surfers. Then calling is OK. But in a hungry crowd where tactics come into play experience is golden and a couple of metres head start is all you need. When someone calls and the whole pack paddles en masse, well that sucks.

Unfortunately my comments reflect that I surf in hungry crowds more often than the former two situations.

I'm sure the more experienced know the situations I mean, and how you can use it to your advantage. Even feinting moves to redirect the pack where you want them to go, and so on. Or engaging in conversation to distract or psych out people, etc.
