...I figured out the sweet sweet spots to hit reos and floaters consistently - once you figure it out the rails are just so forgiving. Starting to figure out how to bust out the tail too, off fin clearing nose ride, to get some threeos goin on...

I want you to show me some of those positions

I'd kind of hung up my 11-2 in favor of my 9-8; but then 2 weeks back I came across this thread and began trying to see what I was missing with the longer board. As it turns out: a lot! I love the 11-2! I love the long swooping turn, I love the cross stepping (as bad as I am at it), and I love getting close to the nose. Haven't hung ten or even five but I did manage a cheater five (or at least my friends who saw it told me that's what it was). Now I'm riding it all the time instead of the 9-8. It's great! So, just wanted to chime in here, and thank you for your *board 11-2 enthusiasm. Excellently infectious.

Just tried out the Starboard 11'2 and 9'8 at Pelican Point. Had no troubles on either on the flat flat water. I am thinking that seeing I went so well (40 years of surfing) then the 9'8 would be the go for me to get into the waves. But reading this post has me thnking twice. The smaller board would be better for ripping the waves, right? I am 87kgs.

Cheers.

Its all about what style of wave riding you want from your SUP?
Both sweet boards and both have different styles.
For me the 11'2 is longboarding at its best. And it catches anything from as small as a ripple to as big as you dare to take it out in.
Also for me the 9'8 is geared for shortboarding. Probably a bit hard to nose ride on but definately sweet for fast take offs and steeper waves.
Both being 30" wide which really only leaves the length as a deciding point?
Hope this helps

Sure - it helps a lot thanks. If the waves are steep enough to warrant the 9'8, then I will be going body boarding instead! So, sounds like the 11'2 is the board for me - given that I want something to do when we get those small fat waves that don't really break fully.

Cheers.

we ll the scarbs banks were broken for a few weeks there

The summer like conditions of the last month straightened them right out - i was getting worried for a while there - they werent even any good for windsurfing..

And then mother nature slips in a late front with 4m plus swell to stir em up.

yay - its back on!

2.2 m swell at rotto - a bit bigger than i'd normally like but the nicce gutters, a strong elevator rip and a high tide made for an excellent little sesh this morning. Got some head high screamers that would probably have been more fun on the 6'4 - but lots of waist high reforms that sent the wave qualntity score through the roof.

Lovin it! And more stirrage to come in the next few days.
