scored a sweet sesh at scabs with Greeny, yesterday eve. it wasn't perfect, quite a lot of crew n backwash, bit of wind and the waves were prob a smidgen to big at first. think the swell was 2.3 on a .8 tide.

but got some short but decent fast rides. amazing how much power and speed these little suckers have got in scarbs + take offs are a joy .

Hey Brooko i would like to see the Kalama Barrelled , if you could do that on that board , it would be impressive.I have the Kalama as well and have taken late drops the only drawback ive found is that getin way back expecially on a sizeable wave the board flaps a bit untill you can get a bit more centered.

How do you rate the Jimmy Lewis 10'8" compared to the Starboard 9'8". I am looking for an upgrade to my Naish 11'6". I had a surf on the Starboard 9'8" and thought it was pretty good, but haven't tried the Jimmy Lewis.

It might get cold down here, but it is so worth it

Ive been riding an 11'2'' UB for about 2 months now. I have held back on my view of it for some time to make sure it was real. My impression of it is, I think, the starboard 11'2'' will in time become a legend. The volkswagon beatle was utilitarian, basic and dependable. I think the SB11'2'' will become in folklore eventually like the VW beatle. There always will be faster boards, more manouvreable boards, more popular boards for a time. The 11'2'' is easy to ride,great on flat water, immense fun in small surf and most importantly extremely capable in surf that some shortboarders would hesitate to ride. It is no Ferrari, not even a monaro but put it on a wave big or small and there is a strong possibility you will walk back up the beach smiling, stoked, satisfied.
I have absolutely no affiliation with any board manufacturers or sales people.

mid tide tends to be best - the gutter is good - but not that good.

or even high when the swell is super small (more swell gets in over the reefs) and the gutters arent too deep. High can be just too deep after a big front has gone thru.

Low tide can be ok but backwash , smaller waves getting in over the reef and closeouts are more common. But if its a work schedule thing then you just have to get out when you can. Can still be ok on a low tide. I tend to find the reefies like a low tide more.

The bank i like right now is right out the front of the Scarbs SLSC - some special little right on that - not sure how much longer it will last though..its strightening up a little more as every non front day goes past.

last summer i was paddling way down to dog beach and beyond to the south - had some great banks there right thru feb last year - with zero crowds! And it was still epic on mid to high with only .8 m swell at rotto! Perfect for those 35 - 40 degree days - magic even...


i'll probably hit it for my lunch break today. The swell at rotto has stayed above 1m...

There is something quite special about the 11'2 - it really is a fantastic all rounder- and it loves a rail grab back hand pig dog i dont care if i live or die kamikaze charge on a nearly too deep left takeoff. Get down low,Pull that rail up 15 degreees and you are nearly bomb proof!

not me on the cam- that was mr too small board / too short paddle
on the next bank down - - you had to be in front of the car park (150m meters to the left - - off screen) to get the magic...

not a bad sesh today - actually pretty damn fun!

but the sweet waves werent as consistent as before - i'd give that bank 2 more days before its gone...

Hey Greenroom, just reading back through this post and wondering what your current thinking was about the 11'2" versus the smaller boards you seem to be paddling lately. I know you were really keen on it but seem to have been getting a little action on the side lately! Ready for a divorce or just playing around?

What width is the 11'2 SB....26" ?

Thanks Greenroom, I'd kinda guessed that and I'm having a great time on my 11'2". Seems like I'm falling into the old windsurf thing of needing (wanting!) a quiver. The 12'6" is a definite keeper for flat water, seems like a smaller one is also on the horizon at some stage. The 12 footer Mr Easy is 32" by the way.
