Angie , My partner wont compete because of the lack of skills and effort put by the girls, may as well have my 7 year old son participate and win the gitrls div!!
Hi Gary, I'm not sure where you're coming from either, but I have to agree with the other girls on this one. If you mean by your comment that your wife's skill and effort is far beyond that of the rest of us girls, then it would be a great encouragement for the rest of us to see her surf and we could learn alot from competing against her. The competition is meant to be about having fun and I think it is awesome that Jacko and Angie have made the effort to include a girls division to encourage the girls who might be a little intimidated entering comps against some of the best guys in the country.
This comp is trying to cater for everyone - those who surf and those who might have more skill in racing. There are plenty of girls putting their EFFORT into this sport and SKILLS are improving everyday.
Without meeting us and seeing us surf, I don't know how you can judge that your 7yo son would easily beat us all, and I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have the paddle power to beat some of the girls in the race as they paddle really hard. If he really is that good then I encourage you to enter him in the mens or amature divisions as it may well inspire more kids to take up the sport and progress.
If you and your family decide you don't want to participate in a friendly and fun competition, that's your choice, but don't try and spoil it for the rest of us who love this sport and are willing to put in the effort to progress the sport in the future.
Personally I think it's great to see so many girls - Jenny, Angie, Sondra, Kristi, Rez, Sue...and plenty more who aren't on the breeze - interested in competing in surf or race events and this is a good thing for the future of the sport.
