Any questions feel free to ask I will post more about it all tomorrow, but at the moment it's looking huge so get in quick. This comp has a girl divison and amatuer as well as pro so there is some thing for all.

Thanks Jacko, but...

What does this mean?
"Paddle Race – 12ft 6" board and under (No Race Boards)"

And what does this mean?
"To compete in the Recreational division, male competitors must not have previously competed in any SUP surfing event."

Oh, and what about?
"Condition: Must be a Surfing Queensland member"

I think from talks last year it is being used as the QLD State Titles for SUP hence the Qld Member thing.

12'6 and under no race boards, means just that. Here are some examples, naish 12ft glide no, psh gun yes, starboard 12'6 surfing boards yes, if the board is surfing sup it can race there will be someone on the beach checking boards. We are trying to make the amatuers a bit more fun and more affordable and this way they don't need to spend up big to buy a race board.

If you are new to comps or don't want to go in the pro then the amatuer divison is for you. Casso no you can not go in the amatuer

I'm pretty sure they had you must be a member up on the site last year as well and everyone still competed. I'll look in to it some more and get back to you.

When I get infront of a computer I'll post some more as it's to hard off a damm iPhone

Looks like the race will suit Naish team riders, since they don't have a board in the 12'6 class that is fast enough, having a 14ft class gives them a chance. Why wouldn't you just make the race open class (no rudder)?

You surprise me Jacko.. I'd hardly call a 12' Glide a race board.. IMO it's far from it.

It's my most used board and if I was someone up there and had one I'd be a bit pissed off that I couldn't use it.

Or is your rule so you can stop people using a board like the Starboard Pin?. I think you'd be better to just have a rule that says 'no displacement type boards'.

I'd feel sorry for those who have a two board quiver.. Something like an 8'10" Hokua (or 9'5" Mana) and a 14' Glide.

Also splitting people into pro and amateur is also a tricky one for those who fit somewhere in between.

I'm not complaining.. .

Always people making it complicated.

I like Jacko's idea. Think of it as a FUN division and a serious division. If you going for the social aspect and aren't a real competitive person or have never competed before, your a fun/amature competitor. If you know your competitive, your PRO.

I like the no-race board class also. I can see the issues in justifying what is race vs leasure/surf/flatwater though. Something I thought of doing a while ago is having an equation that gives you a number which is the board dimensions. Tail width (6" in) x Nose width (6" in) x widest point. Make a size that is official, and no exception. It's an actual and there fore no controversy. I'd probably base it off the SB 12'2" as it's about the fastest surf/non-race board, and pretty narrow. As much as I'd love to see the glide included, it is more of an extra board and is an advantage over Jo average with his 11'6" Nalu. The goal is participation.

If the goal is particatation.. then why turn people away because their board is the wrong shape or size.. I reckon all in no matter what.. Big or small board.. Good or bad paddler.. etc..

Hi DJ
The glide although not a race board is classed as a DW board more than a surf sup.
JB is right in what he says the amatrue class is more fun and people looking at getting in to competing. There will be plently of 11ft boards to use on the day if some one wants some thing bigger than there 9ft sup to paddle.

not turning them away, just putting them in another division. Seems like the ones that dont like the rules want to compete in the easiest class and win......well if your that competitive go in what ever division your classed in, have a crack and have fun...regardless of where you come.

You cant please all of the people all of the time..... which is tough but life. If we all sit around waiting for the perfect comp with perfect conditions for each individual, sup comps will dissapear due to lack of numbers. Start going in these, building the numbers and the individual classes etc will come. The organisers cant afford or practicaly run 10 plus divisons with only 15 people entered

Sorry mate this does not wash with me!!! DC have 14 flat water boards, laukai ka have flat water boards there's penetrator 14 theres star board board that are 12'6 that are super fast secret agent has 14 ft board. I have always said i feel the 14ft class is going to be the biggest so there for one would think in a comp i would hold would be 14ft as the main class.

Mind you Team Naish proved that the 11'6" Nalu window board can beat a 2 12' race/distance specific boards!

But as said above, you can only have so many divisions. And a well classed division should have majority of the fleet finishing fairly close. Maybe next year after this success, there will be a 12' rudderless race class also, or maybe DJ should muster up 20+ 12' race board riders and submitt it to Jacko?

Please i knew all these question were coming and feel free to ask away. My main goal is to make if fun for all and if i opened the amature division up to all board then one person rocks up with a super fast race board that is hardly fair, this way every one is on boards that are close to each other.

I would love for the averge sup rider to enter and just give it a go. I have a trailer full of boards that i will let people use in the race if they want.

Sorry.. I can see that now (I hadn't clicked on the link)..

With.. Paddle Race – 14ft board and under w/ NO Rudder and Recreational race.. that should cover most people.

Yeh maybe you have said the 14ft class will be the biggest.......didn't realsie what you said goes, good to see you're running a race to suit you as oppsed to the masses. I thought majority of races have been 12'6 class and open class, maybe i'm wrong

Good luck to the Roar crew ,looks like it will be a huge event,

reckon the Custom guys are already plotting and all out attack on the new Javelin, can't let the new board in town win,

having the up to 14' class sounds like the go to me,seems to be well supported in the local area there so best to cater for the boards the paddlers have,

Cheers.

Would imagine it will be exactly the same as any S/Qld state titles (shortboard/longboard) in that you will HAVE to join surfing qld which I think is $50 for a years membership and covers you for insurance etc for a whole year.

Sorry, I was thinking the State Qualification Category was just for Queenslanders trying out for the Aussie Titles and I didn't realise the Recreational Category meant beginners only.

So am I allowed to go in the State Qualification Category even though I'm from NSW?

Will I really have to join Surfing QLD ($50) on top of my $60 entry fee - even though I am a paid member of Surfing NSW (which includes insurance).
