LOOKOUT! I attended last year and the year before (longboarding) It's truly a fantastic week,just wake up before sunrise (be the first one out) and go for the late afternoon session!

Lets hope the oil doesn't stuff it up. Our beach (Buddina) is all black and the smell is giving me a headache. Buddina is about 30km south of Noosa. God knows how they are going to clean this up or when it will be safe to go in the water. So much for our beautiful prestine backyard.

On another note does anyone know what day the SUP comp is on at Noosa?

I been listening to the updates on the radio about all the oil, will the comp/event still go ahead?

How is Noosa fairing? Can anyone actually there give a firsthand account of how bad it is?

The latest report from the EPA and local government is that the oil slick will close all beaches from Caloundra to Perigan on Saturday. With the exception of Mooloolaba Bay. Perigan is just south of Noosa. They have done a great job today on the clean up along Buddina Beach and many others though they will still be closed to all people tommorrow. They had loads of trucks and machinery taking away all contaminated sand. It was pretty toxic as those handling it were in space suits. They are doing water and sand quality tests to ensure everyones safety before they open these beaches. They may be open by Sunday / Monday.

It is a pitty they weren't prepared to use the booms to close off the the rivers and lakes in time as oil got right into them in this area.

Noosa looks like it dodged the bullet and even so if Point Cartright protected Mooloolaba which is right in the middle of the muck then Noosa Heads will definitely look after the comp area as it is many times larger.

It looks like it will be a great week at Noosa with light winds. Pitty the swell may drop away a bit though.

I just got back from Noosa got some great waist high waves and also meet a few seabreeze crew, Casso , Robdog , Simon (newcastle sup) , Suplove , and Keahi.

Casso and Robdog absolutely rip on there Naish 9-3's and Keahi was on a 8-0 x 27 and was smashing it around like a 6 Ft thruster , this kid is good. Simon was on a new C4 prototype 9-6 x 26.5 x 3-3/4 he surfed really well on it but 5 of us all did board swaps and I struggled to stand on it but it was great trying all the different in one session.

Dale Chapman delivered my new 12-6 I couldn't stay for the race so I left it with him and Travis paddled on it , I also checked out the Penetrator at Golden Breed which looked great.

Just before the start of the race a guy came up to Dale and wanted to buy his own 12-6 on the condition that he could race on it , so Dale sold his own board it .Here are the results I don't have all the names and board lengths.

1st Travis Dale Chapman 12-6 (my board )
2nd Woogie Penetrator 12-6
3rd Danny Dale Chapman 12-6 (only seconds behind Woogie)
4th Dale Chapman board
5th Dale Chapman board
6th Dale Chapman board

So a great day for Dale and it looks like this 12-6 class is going to be a popular one.

Alison from the goldy won the girls on a glide and bet most of the blokes as well i heard.

Well done Sue on coming second ,good effort on that board , sounded like a great race and good for the spectators , it must have got crowded on the finish line , how was the prize money spread out.

It sure does. Can I ask the measurements? Particularly how wide it is?

Also I have noticed that many of these Race boards dont have a handle set in the deck. Why is this so? I would have thought it more convenient and perhaps even lighter to insert a handle.

Lobes it's 27.5 wide I don't have handles in any of my boards , I didn't even think to ask.

Well done to you Ali Cat , I've seen you guys training at the Alley , Jacko said you were a gun. Great to see 2 Gold Coasters take out the male and female division in the Sup race

Who is Travis Grant?

Travis is from the Gold Coast. He is currently one of Australia's top outrigger paddlers and steersmen. I believe he started SUP about 8 months ago and this was his first race. He's only about 5'10" tall and a light weight. I'm guessing about 85kg's but a very strong and strategic paddler. And a very nice humble guy. He did well.
