Hey Skisurfer,
Down here in Mexico we try to stay well clear of the prone guys etc and let lots of waves go through.
Often when your on a SUP you end up being the pied piper! People see you catching waves and automatically think that they will catch them too in the same spot.
At OG I always keep well wide of the Main Beach even to the point where I really dont surf with my good friends anymore, its a real pain but necessary.

The wider I paddle the wider the main group goes because the sweeper dude is making waves so can I. The locals are all stay right where they are because they know the break well. In fact in that respect we probably thin things out a bit.
Then when the prone guys that swing wide cant catch the waves they get angry because your a bastard and taking them all. In reallity they will never catch what I usually target, fat slop.
If you think its bad now, wait 6 months. Some of the boards just being released will allow people with absolutely no clue or any skill the stability to venture into the surf so the fun and games are really going to start in full swing this summer.
The best is yet to come.
Phill
