With interest I have read posts about surfing laceys last Sunday morning.
As a ski rider who has surfed there well before you people appeared I am appalled at the way almost all of you try and hog the waves, especially the set waves out the back. all surfers are getting sick of your ways. some of you showed no regard getting on waves early.

i know what you are saying, i know a few of the guys and i'm copping ear full about it. mate' it hard, even when you try to do the right thing- let a few go, ask guy's if they wont the wave and call a few people on, you can still end up doing the wrong thing by someone. i might add, the general idea was sups go wide and down to lacey's etc. i thought that happened, unfortunately, there are no waves on the point so everybody has moved down to the "sups spot". hopefully the banks will get better and the prone guy's can go back up to the point and everything is spread out again. we can't go any wider then we are now. maybe sups should go up the point- seriously

sorry mate, It's kind of tempting because you know you can catch the wave earlier than most but yes fair enough just because we can doesn't mean we should.

i was thinking about this some more. me personally i prefer to sup without other sup-pers. it has occurred to me , when there is a lot of sup-pers out a kind of pack mentality happens like,- i let that wave go for the pronies and that other guy on the sup grabbed it, stuff that, i getting the next one. might be something for all of us to think about

totally agree with you lacey, one or two mates, thats it, but after that its dog eat dog and yeah i feel for the ski guy,he has probably surfed laceys for ages by himself, but hey, dont brand us all as "you people"because i dont think sup will die like ski's did,a mate of mine in noosa is a fair hand on a ski and he dont like sups either.

Buddy I doubt you have a geniune beef with SUP'ers, you seem like the type who gets a kick out of starting a war of words.

Go troll another site if you are going to SUP bash. Otherwise bring some legitimate constructive feedback instead of ignorantly painting evey SUP'er with the same brush.

Hey Surfskier, no doubt before the advent of SUP you probably thought you were God's Gift on your g'boat sitting out the back picking off waves whenever you felt like it. Now you've got a bit of competition and don't like it....what a sook .

As for coming on this forum and calling someone a moron...take a good look at yourself sunshine

first of all i hear where your coming from.... i try and do the right thing and get in a position where im not "competeing" for waves with the short boarders etc... if you look at the line up at laceys...its mals and short boardes closest to the point and that goes down the line with SUP'rs mostly down the end...

there where a couple of guys out on race type skis getting on waves before everyone....i was just watching and thinking how hard it would be to ride a wave on one of those things...pretty cool. i did paddle onto a wave or 2 that they were on but as i was going down the line alot more i didnt think it bad... and felt i didnt interfear with them....nothing was said to me.

regarding getting on waves early...isnt that what SUP's are designed for???? can be almost impossible to catch a wave on a 10+ foot board in the same spot as shortboardes...

cheers, Serg
if i am the guy that you are referring to, just a poilte word in the surf and give me some pointers. im learning

Surfskier has SOME legitimate claims - in saying that though Laceys and the Alley has always been a dog eat dog spot for all surf craft and anyone who paddles out there on any regular basis should be aware that on any day you will get snaked and dropped in on and run into and run over and everything else in the book and that could be by a shortboarder/mal rider/ clubby ski/fishing boat or even a wayward jetstar airbus - its just that kinda spot where everyone on all types of craft and of all levels of skill frequent because it is usually a very soft and forgiving wave and especially for learners.
HOWEVER - since day one the same tools (only a handful of em) have always paddled out through the lineup on their sups at the point and hogged waves on the point and generally made prix of themselves in the name of getting noticed. Luckily most of the sup crew at the alley and laceys are genuine and considerate people who share waves with all other craft and are doing the sport proud.
AND as an ex mal rider at the alley and laceys I have had more problems with goatboats and skis than I ever had with the sups.

Hey Skisurfer,

Down here in Mexico we try to stay well clear of the prone guys etc and let lots of waves go through.

Often when your on a SUP you end up being the pied piper! People see you catching waves and automatically think that they will catch them too in the same spot.

At OG I always keep well wide of the Main Beach even to the point where I really dont surf with my good friends anymore, its a real pain but necessary.

The wider I paddle the wider the main group goes because the sweeper dude is making waves so can I. The locals are all stay right where they are because they know the break well. In fact in that respect we probably thin things out a bit.

Then when the prone guys that swing wide cant catch the waves they get angry because your a bastard and taking them all. In reallity they will never catch what I usually target, fat slop.

If you think its bad now, wait 6 months. Some of the boards just being released will allow people with absolutely no clue or any skill the stability to venture into the surf so the fun and games are really going to start in full swing this summer.

The best is yet to come.

Phill you say i dont surf with my friends anymore because you cant.

Thats because the whole OG sup family is taking the beach over.

Hey BP,

I can happily say we dont cause any grief that I am aware of. In fact I have been told several times that they wish the other SUPers were as considerate.

The local longboard club supported our demo day because we were respectful and still are.

In return when we see other SUPers causing grief we do our best to have a quite chat. Some understand some dont thats life!

billboards got it wired for the alley.
there are certain people paddling out that know how to surf a stand up board and use that to there advantage. pisses people off. pisses me off. i was on my board last week and i was tempted to paddle over and have some words to some guys that were blatantly snaking short boarders. tourist, but he burnt him bad.
soon the grumpy old boys will start a swinging.
hope the dredging brings back alley proper, just to save some ass wooping.

I agree with everything you said Lacey however, strongly disagree with '' sups spot'' the ocean belongs to everyone and NOone has their own ''spot''
The ocean is a FREEway, all kind of craxy crafts out now day's.As long as we have respect to road rules.
