And are the DC 14 boards designed for downwind or flat use ?

I have, and IMO the DC I've used feels more like and allrounder 14.. and leaning more towards the down-winders than flat water racing.

Remember they can be custom ordered to suit your weight.. ability.. and needs perfectly.

Spent a lot of time on a dc14 but not so much on other 14's. I reckon its pretty quick on the flat, turns really well, and fast and super stable down wind.

Cheers thanks DJ , the custom thing is something I hadn't realized ! A bonus to be able to customize when spending a substantial amount of money .

well i've been on a lot of dales and a fair few others. this current version 14' is doing very nicely. pretty quick in the flats and pretty good at down winding. we had a long paddle saturday that was cross wind and swell and dale looked to have it a lot easier time of it then myself and another guy- we had big volume purpose built down wind boards that didn't suit 'cutting'.

so they are really good all round stable boards . btw two sizes 28 and 30' in widths

Mine is the 30 wide. I'm a light weight at 75kg so perhaps the 28 wide would have suited me better.

Why would you buy a production board when you can get a hand made board from Dale that will smash the production boards for not much less? Sure it might be a little dearer but you will never regret it

Have had the fanatic 14 and 12/6 and the dale chapman 14and12/6 leaves them for dead both flat and down wind the production boards seam to have a a bit harder Finnish So maybe can take a few knocks more just don't let your custom DC to a novice paddler = rail damage
The best thing AUSSIE made 100% not some young guy working for 2 bucks a day in a factories

Have paddled Adam's 14 x 30 dc, fanatic 14 and owned the lahui Kai 14 orca. Fanatic 14 is by far the fastest in flat water and it would be s toss up between the lahui Kai and dc as an allrounder. Both tick all the boxes but two completely different feeling boards.

I have paddled all these boards as well and am thinking the paddler on top of the board will be the difference, so not sure what you are smoking to say one would leave the other for dead!! All good boards yes DC is made in aus and they are going very good and dale is doing a good job but you might be surprised how much Aussie goes in to the fanatic boards these days as well!! By the where does the resin and glass and stuff come from these days to make most of the boards these days? The Aussie made thing is such a wank!!! Look around your house and tell me what is made here!! I had a guy in the shop and he would not buy a leg rope that was made overseas so I said good luck swimming for your board!!I love supporting stuff that is made here as much as the next guy but the truth is that if these guys want to make a living then stuff sometimes has to go off shore and if you think dale wouldn't take his boards to chaina if he could you are kidding your self. The guys people should be getting pissed at are the ones who go to china and bring back siht and under cut the whole market and stuff it for everyone they are the ones screwing the local shapers!!! sorry rant over, time to get in to my suit!!

Just putting it out there, but who do you think works in the factories in Aus doing glassing etc. for the local shapers It may not be $2/day but they're probably not earning top dollar either.

I don't have anything against either local or overseas made boards - just seems the comparisons are being blown way out of proportion.

Ali honestly can only speak for all the NSW factories I worked in or worked for over the years and the all the staff I ever worked with were Aussie and were really good tradesmen who had developed their skills over the years to be able to do what they do and do it very well as if they couldn't they would be out of work.
ok wait i did once work with a Brazilian guy once but he was just traveling through on holidays and needed some coin was a super nice chap though, wish he stayed as he was a really good Glasser could get them super light when asked.
You are right about the money being **** though in the surfboard industry is very low paid job for the amount of skill and experience needed to do the job totaly sucks!
I hope this answer your question ?

Hands down DC makes the best all-round, one-board-does-all, custom/production boards for speed and handling for Aussie conditions IMHO.

To clarify, Dale is not doing customs for 2011/12. Instead he has 4 set models that are made to order.

12'6 Aruda x 28 1/2" or 30"

14' Makaru x 28 1/2" or 30"

These boards seriously rock But don't take mine or any one else's words on it.

If you are in and around Sydney you can demo both boards in 30" width.

Just PM me and I might lend you my favorite AA

Those are some pretty big calls ... I think everyone likes a different feel of a board and are looking for something different in a board so ,one mans at the moment best board ever is and could be another mans pig! That is why there are so many different shapes and styles of boards out there and we are the lucky ones who benefit from this let's just hope you have your at the moment fav board under your feet!!
If not I hope you all find it

This is my favorite topic. Hahah.

Nothing wrong with pro Aussie made, I do see problems with Anti Asian though....

I have been helping a great friend of mine that is arguably making and glassing the highest quality diverse range of boards in Australia if not globally. Right here in Currumbin! We had our Christmas Party, 4 Aussies, 12 Japanese.... Why Japanese? Hand crafted means something special to them, they have a desire to be the best at what they do an take amazing pride in their work. That's not easy to find.

Given my other business also am in no position to be Anti Asian production.

I will say though what I am heavily against is boards or any consumer product being made overseas and being misrepresented as being from Hawaii or Australia by misleading statements like designed, created or even made in etc. Recent developments at a Federal Govt level mean that any board in a retail outlet or wholesale warehouse that has been imported illegally (without proper permanent country of origin labeling) is at severe danger of being confiscated until this is remedied.

I personally would hate to see this happen, others on the government and industry committees i am involved with pray for it.
