My boss just jumped on board as he was walking out of work today and is going to chip in $25 per hour I paddle - so I might aim to do a bit more than the 10 hours I'd planned!!!

Hi Guys just spoke to Maritime Safety at Seaworld Dr and there is no aquatic permit for any race/event in the creek this weekend, as stated by the powers that be "Everything that is conducted on the water must be run by us first, so saying this its a nice idea but not well organised.

Just making any other events in the future frowned upon

so at the last quarter you go public with this info with what outcome in mind......regardless of the fact, a better approach could have been taken for this and future events......

but hey thanks

I rang them today for our skiff race up here, questioned them why its important fro all the paperwork, they love paperwork I then mentioned bout the fundraising and they got annoyed, but dont panic if theres permits they will be on display as per rules of MSQ same as raffle permits for category 1,2, or 3 wow o wow paperwork again

this place is becoming a real joke.....you know "clicky" kinda like a bunch of high school girls. Here is a group of people doing something for the flood victums...what if all the T's werent crossd and all the i's dotted? does it need to be pointed out on a public forum and in such a petty way?? kinda stinks of an alterier motive.....and funny thing is you may have forgotten some of the people that are putting on this event have some experince in water safety and putting together stuff that involves the public....

I couldnt give a **** who is putting it on or who is going to be there....its not about that or how much you paddle or laps you do....just pitching in to help other aussie familys in need

nice way to remind us that tall poppy syndrome is alive an well....

go fly a kite

Heaps of Photographers and TV down there. Maybe tune into 9 news, as they seem to be hanging around all day.

There was about 40 paddlers at the start line, with over nearly 200 & more to paddle over the next 24hours.

BBQ is on and raffles have started. Everyone is doing their bit, selling raffle tickets or the girls helping out at Registration table.

Jacko and Kelly feeling good so far. Also another local paddler Tim giving the 24 a crack.

I will keep updating until my stint on the water. Some of the teams are wearing Hats they made with 35 on them. 35 is the number of people that lost their lives in the Floods.

Yeah there were quite a few, there are main tents and people sprinkled all along the creek on the sand also. Lots of families etc.

People want to be nice to each other, sometimes you just have to give them the opportunity to do so..

P.S I just read that locked thread, this forum has been so entertaining of late.

Just got back from my paddle stint down at the Currumbin creek 24hr paddle.

Good laidback vibe and plenty of people watching and paddling with differing abilities.

Watching the night paddlers over a cold one was very enjoyable

Even took Scotty and the boys for a few laps in the 4 man outrigger for a different type of paddling.

Great to see many people setting up tents for the night shift.

The northerly wind is a pain one way but a godsend the other.

Good vibe, good event and plenty of different boards to try. These paddles definitely make you thirsty.

Off for another cold one.

Just got back to Brissy from doing the 3-4am shift for team EP.
Did a little more than the hour(2 1/2 actually) and had a good time.
Really nice to paddle at that time of the morning.

Jacko passed the 100km mark sometime around 4. Super effort and still looked strong
He was having his Weetbix as I left.

Congrats to the organisers and all the paddlers. There was a nice feel to the whole event.

P.s Thanks to the guy on the 14" glide for slowing down for a few laps and allowing me to actually pass someone Clearly you were just having a recovery period but it lifted my spirits

Well, best of luck to all those competing and raising funds! Especially those going for 24 hours!!

What an effort to get such an event up and running in such a short time. Amazing effort guys!! As for the knockers I guess you are up in far north QLD helping out right now and just bummed you couldnt make it!

Nothing like the atmosphere at a 24 hour event I reckon! Stay tuned for a Sydney event later this year!

All the best guys! Great effort all round!

ALL FINISHED Jacko paddled 145 kilometres Great Effort. Tim Brimblecombe and Kelly Margetts also just magic to watch. The finish was awesome with about 100 paddlers taking to the water in a great display of 'paddle power'
