for those of us interested in getting into this sort of racing is there any information available as to what 12'6" board and paddle combinations were used

pete

Top 10 12'6 class men were made up of Fanatic, Naish Javelin, Starboard BOP/Race & DC's, but those guys would probably have been the top 10 regardless of what boards they used!!!

thanks for the info. i keep an eye on the kawana time trials site as well.

as far as paddles go and forgetting about brands, and i know individual styles have a factor, but is any blade size, say 100 sq ins more popular

crickey, we'd better not factor the different fins into the performance equation!

I went in this race with the idea to finish and have fun- Both goals were accomplished.

I started off 10th and started counting the passing numbers, 11, 12, 13...

Before I reached the bar I had already been passed by about 4 or 5 people.
I passed two people in the bar( they fell off, I did not)

Once clear of the bar, the passing continued.
16, 18, 20...
Groyne #1 passed
23, 34, 38....
groyne #2 passed
..42, 46... 52. How far away is Jacko #90 !!

I eventually caught and passed one person. ( the fact he was older than me did not dull my silent victory cheers)

60, 64....

I got to the bar, my feet were numb. I caught a wave- almost got in, then hit a bump and swim time. Twice!
I eventually pushed/kicked/washed to the sand bar and continued on my merry way against the current.

Lots more passing now- numbers passing too fast to be recognizable

Hello Jacko- bye bye Jacko.
At least the bridge was getting closer.

Rounded the final turn and put in a slightly spirited effort for the last few metres.
BIG Thanks to Scotty for telling me to run up to the flags and for board handling.

The cold beer was appreciated muchly- thanks Burleigh Brewing Co
Thanks to the SUPSA club and all those involved.

Congratulations to all winners.

I think the timed starting was a great idea.

The numbers quoted in this were only approximate- for effect rather than fact!

See you next time!

Good on all the newcomers to their first race and what a race it was. Worked the mind as well as the physical as you coul not slacken off if you were looking for a place.

A lot of people after the race if it was worth getting coaching.

If you want to go in these sort of races and improve try to join a group. If there is coaching there good, even if it just the group offering advise. Alwas easy to improve when your with others....
