Come on Lacey I know you from those shortboard days at d-bah, you spent a sh-t load of time and bucks in the R&D rooms around the traps and have owned /designed or ridden just about every sup known to man.

I still feel a sup is a blown up surfboard.

haha, a few rambling thoughts

i would like to have a go on one of dtm's boards, the boys are slaying it on um and they are so light

that dc 8'8stepper board was an eye opener

the psh 8'9 ripper is probably the best board i've been on - the sloped or slightly chambered rail and flat deck is something i really like. would have be keen on trying a smaller psh, but they start getting too wide for my liking and the 8'9 has the best looking shape- looks similar to casso newie. it was pretty much like getting a custom board for my needs

i would like to see naish get their boards lighter and do a bit more with bottom side profiles- the 8'4 is their sweet board. i like the fact that they seem to be able to up grade and put out new models regularly

i know a lot of people like um, but i can get my head around the sb sub 9' shapes and i've tried a few. possible sb play it too safe with stability, but they do give a lot people the chance to go under 9', so that's fair enough

the lsd range look good, haven't been on one. the weight is a worry and i believe they need to address that and hopefully they do

can someone give me a go on a lagana bay performance, haven't been on one

is dhd or murry going to have a crack at it

are dolphin going to a have serious crack at the dw market

the bop when it gets going in oz will be massive and board design there will be red hot

they are a few thoughts that should get my red thumbed till christmas

cheers
ps whats bingo cheers next board

Yep, Blown Up Shortboards do OK.

Yes, you could blow up a McTavish Egg, or a Channel Islands Generation 2 Single Fin.

Take a 6'6 x 21"1/2 x 3" performance fun board, weather that be a fish, thruster fish, or egg, or fun single fin, factor it up by 1.4, and you are pretty close to 9'0 x 30" x 4"1/4. Sounds like a quiver of fun SUP's to me already !!

Yes, it takes some experience from the shaper, to know exactly what is working best, in certain conditions, getting the rails right, rocker, concaves, overall volume to suit the rider, etc, etc.

Even take a big wave gun, 10'0 x 20" x 3 factored by 1.4, is 14' x 28" x 4"1/4, and you won't be that far away from Rob Machado's cruiser. Flatten the rocker a touch though.

Sorry if you carnt windsurf and slaye the dragon and do back loops....well you carnt SUP.

Well you sux. but probably can sup ?

Windsurfers ..........lovem or hatem .....brought it all to you..... back door bandits. so stop your winging.

THE BEST SUP IS ONE NOT IN 2

And guess what ,its the construction from the demands of windsurfing that have given them half a chance to stay in one piece..........but hey

Thats why i got a jimmy lewis and im not saying its the greatest shreadig board but its reliable and fkn strong.

Oh ........... shaping your own is cool as ................and upscaling your surf board ........guess what thats what windsurfers have been wacking waves on for the last 30 years ..........welcome to alice and wonderland

As the saying goes doods

GLASSED TO BLAST OR GLASSED TO LAST now thats your call.

Slap or be slapppped by the fire breathing dragon on your weapon of choise and use your paddle as the sword to slap the hissing tail

how do you type while using both hands to play with yourself...?

Im an old person who should be playing lawn bowls .. but one of the advantages of being an old person is to have more options and more spare time ... and as I dont have kids to put through University I have had the option of buying a new SUP whenever a new idea came out .... I have a roof full of the rotten things .. I started with a Red One ... which was shaped on the Goldie by a genius ... it even had a carry handle in the bottom of the board not the deck cause I may hurt myself if I stepped in the hole .. a great shape very similar to the early C4s .. then had two (2) Bob Mc boards and rode All of his early ones .... Then I went to Noosa for the weekend and purchased A Josh board ( the black and white striped one which he won a contest on) ... it was a blown up plan shape from his Mal shaped by a real shaping bay Guru .. This board is fantastic for those lazy days in small clean surf .... but everyone was riding C4s .. so I got a blue one .. Still wasn't doing the stuff Brian was doing .. So another skinny Bob Mc ... also a blue one ... Then I became desperate and got myself a Starboard .... a white one, 30 inches wide and 9"8" long and a funny round nose with a swallow tail and finally a sensible carry handle .. I think it was shaped by a few Nordic people ... But for Me it was better than ones which were shaped by legends ... It wasn't built to do stuff which was impossible for me to do But I rode it in places from Spookies to Padang Padang . Because it worked for me .. I got another one with a different plan shape ( I dont think they chaneg the nose shapes ... but this new one was yellow ... then a shorter blue one !!!!! and I suppose in the process I was sending A lot of Thai people to expensive night clubs .. But right now I am in Bali riding a pocket rocket ( and for those still interested ... a lovely candy colour deck) Now I dont really know anyone from Starboard who actually shapes the little devils .. But they are in Bali all the time testing and I guess they are on those windy West Oz beaches and other places doing the same thing ....cause they can afford it !!!!! .... I have ridden every Starboard from the 6'6" to the really long ones because I was lucky enough to be at Cunggu when Peter Cox arrived with a Toyota full of testers .... and while they seem to be making the same board all the time somehow It does not feel like it ... Their catalogue is full of designs which may all look the same but ride differently .... the best boards I have owned are ones which have gone through this process .... Now Im finally getting to my point here so please stick with me ... I first met Bob Mc during the "shortboard revolution " Bob would start with square rails on boards then do a rail job in flour and resin and most of the time wait till it dried ... then then go out till it surfed well .... then try something else till it worked better . Thats my first experience of R&D .. To quote someone really famous ... "Most guys are riding short boards which only pro surfers should be riding!! "Thats a quote from Kelly Slater ( well thats what I think he would have said if anyone had asked him) ... Woody Jack and DC and Luke are doing a great job but are restricted by the number of models they can bring out ... So they are going for the sharp end of the market .. I have ridden Woodies and DCs .. But its not one for me ... I ride a board tested on retirees and developed by guys who have the opportunity to hack up a lump of expensive foam and make a new model every month ..... A few years has been huge changes in design ... Im a slightly different rider than I was 5 years ago and so are my boards .. Perhaps someone should get the Dogman to run up the road raid my roof and do a retro tester on the eleven boards there ( nobody wants a second hand board especially in Yamba ) .. I remember Roger as a SUpuppy saying his 10'6" C4 was "the best board ever made on this or any other planet " ... Now while IM really going for the record of the longest Tirade on Seabreeze since the battle of Port Phillip Bay . we all know that we are still in SUP development ... We have so many directions to go... Do we have to make them all into one design types which can do floaters and turn like a shortboard but we cant paddle them is anything with a bit of side chop ... or ones where we can nose ride till the judges give perfect 10s ... we are all better off to have guys like Woody Jack and DC and Luke and Bob Mc etc to get involved and keep spitting out radical new designs ... But IM off to the West coast of Bali to ride a Candy Coloured SUP shaped by a Pole Dancer ...

The best part of all this is that the shortboard shapers were the last on the sup scene and now want to change it to suit them and as such make a claim on the sport. If it wasnt for windsurfers and longboard shapers stand up paddling in its modern form wouldn't even exist for us to have these wonderful discussions.

Shortboard shapers last on the scene???????????? What????????????

You contradict yourself every minute. In the beginning of SUP here in QLD and Ausytralia when there was basically C4 only, C4 Paddles, Chris G, Dale C, Dan McDonald and Woody were already making SUP boards for a good amount of time. (Naish was not even here yet and they arrived extremely early) The boys were ripping on them also. The other option at that time was actually Infront that was before all of them here on the Coast.

If I remember correctly Mick D, Jamie M and DW Phil were first here to ride SUP and possibly the first in Australia even. These guys were on C4 (Mick) (shaped by a ex shortboard pro by the way Dave Parmenter) Jamie had a Chris Garret (ooops another shortboard shaper.....) and DW Phil on Infront shaped by a clubby board guy, possibly Birsey now of Lahui Kai. Yep, last on the scene alright, shortboard guys made the scene.

If you're gonna pretend you know something and make claims that belittle others opinions at least actually know something.

Your head was still in the clouds at that time thinking your longboards were great and calling me a stand up goat boater riding some ridiculous board with a paddle.

P.S I'd love to know what boards Laird, Darrick, Dave and Brian K were riding when they rebirthed this sport in the first place. I know Dave Parmenter as an extremely versatile shaper was a huge part of the Makaha thing and made the Tandem boards before SUP that may have been used for early SUP. I'd love to know the details if anyone knows where to find them.

It only appears that way, I tried my hand at political forums once and could not get a rise from anyone. Even tried to bait people with extremist views. Nothing. Like you say about this forum the inside circles over there wouldn't even let me in.

I only do this for light entertainment. I honestly don't give a rats. Oops, did I just say that? If I wanted to talk surfboard design seriously I'd call a customer. I work from home, some days it's the only interaction with others I get

Like Jacko said, it's just surfing, I do many kinds of it and only because it's fun. Bill gives me the rise I need, he's reliable and it keeps me entertained. Sorry Bill. I just like to stir people up.

P.S those little red thumbs are like an endorphin injection. Woooooooh.
