I have had a bit of a mixture of sports over the last 50 years(dam that makes me feel old) I started with gymnastics in my early teens then spent several years boxing. I then got into speedway riding bikes, hanging of side cars and finishing in formula 500's. When I got out of speedway I built and flew a gyrocoptor for a couple of years, sold that(a big mistake, I wish I still had it)and tried hang Gliding. Over the last few years I have got into sports that do not knock me around too much. I have a kite buggy, 4 kayaks and 2 land yachts. I am retiring at the end of this year after 45 years underground in the mines.

I'm David, a teacher, from Ulverstone Tasmania.
Can’t believe the expanse of sand you guys have to sail on.
Land yachting experience - 6 months.
I’m building my 6th land yacht already.
I’ve only built one without a steering wheel and that was the first I'd never go any other way now.
Did I mention 'I can’t believe the expanse of sand you guys sail on?' any wonder you don’t have a steering wheel.
Next time I’m out I’ll try and get some pictures to post if anybodies interested. (They won’t look anywhere near as impressive as the ones already on the forum)

So impressed with land sailing that I can see myself doing this for a long time. Seems to be about every 6 months I get to go sailing. The more I find out the more I relaise that a lot of development has been done in the past. Paul is a man with much experience and knowledge so I will be asking him for information.

Hi, I'm Wayne Pauls test pilot. Up until last sunday I had never over turned. 3 times in 1 race. Twice in one lap same spot. I new I shouldn't have lost that ballast. Highest speed 110 kph average for 7 seconds(12kph befre & 16kph after) in a mini yacht(paul designed) blok art look alike.

Hi Guys,My name's Peter and hail from Bundaberg in Queensland.

Land Yachting, well I was hooked after my first ride in a blokart. Also get a big orgasm out of yacht cruising on the Queensland coast. I have a Van De Stadt 34 built from steel that is begging for my attention to get her back in the water.

Have been sailing a couple of blokarts for the last three years but I am looking forward to building a class5 and/or class6 in the near future and bringing them or it to Gilles and Lefroy to see what you desert duellers are raving about.

Best I have had out of the blokart is 66 kph at Yeppoon on the coast near Rockhampton. The sail was maxed out with the leech fluttering like crazy. I am told intermediate battens should give me a bit more speed.[}:)] If you are over this way Yeppoon is probably the best place on the coast to get a ride. Big tides (4-5 mtrs), good fine sand with a little bit of river mud mixed in to keep it hard and reliable winds that hit the beach at near 90 degrees most of the time.

I am all for a national land sailing body and state affiliated clubs. To me ALSA looks to be the go as it is the longest standing, has international affiliation and has the insurance in place.

Blowies have a lot of sail up high and a soft mast. with the sail flutteringyou can try a smaller sail,or a stiffer top on your mast. or try a shorter stinger out the back which allows you to haul the sail in ttighter . you could get a sail with less up top. OOPS I forgot ,it wouldnt be a Blokart then. Time to design and build a mini. I recommend you stick with Blokart width and length and mast base position but move your body weight back. do it with 400x8 wheels/tyresand it will fly.then you can race with our minis as we flog the blowies. The old ALSA class 6 specs are a bit wider and less convenient to transport.

I'm Ron and I live about 280 kms NNW of Melbourne in Kerang. I don't own any kind of landyacht yet, but that situation will change in 2008! My brother from Mackay has shown me the pleasures of blokarting - bringing his baby down so we could try it out this Christmas. After getting some serious speed up in my first ever try, I was hooked.

When my brother said he was bringing his blokart down he asked me to suss out potential places for us to sail, I explored the area and found Lake Cullen. For any Vics looking for a HUGE expanse of perfect flat sailing environment, it would have to be as good as it gets. You can see it on youtube via my post in the blokarts thread. Looking forward to a big 2008 which should include my establishment into the land sailing fraternity - I hope.

Hello everyone. My names Lachlan and I live slightly northwest of Bendigo, central Victoria. Currently Im a uni student in Bendigo. Ive been checking the forums reguarly, its good to check what the worlds up to. Here I was a couple of months ago thinking I was a lone inland landsailer. happy to see the sport is more widespread and established than I once thought (I maybe no longer a crazy nut with a weird wind machine ).

Currently Im rebuilding a blokart sized mini-yacht, my initial testing seemed promising so its time to lighten and do a good copy (initially it was a tad rough). My first yacht was an experimental model, powered by a Paper Tiger catamaran sail/mast and running on datsun 120Y wheels(rear) and wheelbarrow(front); it was a good learing experience and my father an I have had a lot of fun with it over the past couple of years. Our sailing has been predominantly on sheep paddocks where the bigger wheels performed much better (it originally had wheelbarrow wheels a round). I hope to build another with similar dimensions soonish that has undergone weight loss. Cant wait to have multiple yachts up and running .

Special G'day to Inlander aka Ron. Saw and comented on your youtube video as fox_shooter2. Glad to see you turn up here on the forum, hope you have some luck gaining a yacht. Hopefully I'll one day catch you up at Cullens lake for some sailing.

We had a stint about 15 years ago in Central Vic, we lived in the tiny town of Dunolly and used to amuse the locals by putting our landyacht in the street parade and sailing it around the town oval after he cricket season whilst the oval was hard before they started watering it for the footy season! a very small window of opprotunity Looking forward to seeing some pics

Gday to all.

I'll endevour to get some photos online for anyone to laugh at soon. My first machine has never had any pics taken of it, the only images thus far are screen captures from video. A couple of these small, low res pics are visable in my profile. I've been much better behaved with my current project, its getting regular construction shots as I get through it. Hopefully the first of these will be up by the end of the week As for ideas; Ive been getting many of those , my fathers a little worried what my next large landsailer will turn out!

I've been through Dunolly a couple of times, maybe even stopped there. Not sure tho; its been a fair while since Ive been out that way. Im situated near Marong so not as far out I bet you got some interesting looks and comments from the locals, the farmer whose paddock we were sailing on couldn't stop laughing when he saw our contraption roaring round

Thanks for making my life a little more hectic Ron; now I have to fit a trip to Kerang in before uni starts again! Pretty sure, especially after seeing your video, it'll be a high priority when Im finished construction. Its sort of an ironic situation; I used to go to Kerang (the swamps) to hunt because of the water, now I want to go due to the lack of it Anyone who is interested may want to keep an eye out in the construction section over the next week for a bit of a post by me.
