kiters plateau. nearly everyones a one trick wonder.

so we need trick specific kites.

i myself have been stuck on same trick for 2 years now and i have worked my way thru nearly every major brands top freestyle/wakestyle kite (not into crossovers for the masses *cough* sales *cough*)

some of those have been clearly better at my specific line of tricks ive been working on more then others. i know why and when i see a kite of simular characteristics it also behaves in a similar manner.
but thats me

i was wondering what some of you who have been doing one particular thing for a season or 2 now and what design characteristics seem to be assisting you in that and what ones make it near impossible.

for example me, i need C kite with 5 or 6 lines for unhooked kite looping. i have seen the light going back not an option.

i hear a few of you bigger older boosting lads love the high aspect deltas (notice how im not mentioning brands and models? lets try keep that going see what we get

enjoy

Exactly.... You can do most tricks on any kite... some of the best riders I have seen have been on ancient kites

The best trick I ever saw, was someone on a Fuel do a dark slide over the sand, but face first. It's definitely a super dooper secret trick, as I've never seen anyone else do it, let alone attempt it.

so for board offs you want as much time in the air as possible. ideal kite design for that would be a nice fat flat foil kite...

understand my first post yet?

It's good to have a c kite and a big beefy flat kite. You will get so many more enjoyable sessions with both, even if one is second hand and beaten up.

There is flat and then there is flat too, e.g. Ozone edge same size as North Rebel is way more powerful but way less manouverable.

All kites can be used to do tricks.

If you need a C kite, get a C kite. Pretty easy. But why restrict yourself, kiting is a pretty diverse world, having skills in every genre can only be beneficial. Then work on your kite control and technique. Try some different exercises to build up some extra strength to stomp the trick you are stuck on . Cross training helps immensely.

No idea why you don't want to name brands, go with the North Vegas. If it is good enough for Hadlow it is good enough for anyone.

honestly just dont think any of you are good enough to understand what i am saying.

they should make a kite not for a wide variety of tricks but for just ONE one specific goal nothing else. something that is so specialised it would suck at EVERYTHING but one trick which it would excel at.

what im saying is YOU should look at your ONE TRICK the one you do all the time as i know im not the only one whose been locked on to one trick for more then a season or 2. and analyze exactly what is required from the kite to pull off that trick as big or easy or slow or fast however it is you want possible.

anyone understand this gibberish yet or what?

Yeh I kind of understand. Like why is a megalooping big air kite the freestyle kite.
Whats the trick your trying?
At the end of the day, you have to change your technique sometimes to match the kite. If you need more slack just drop the kite lower.
Now days I don't even chase the slack, I just pull harder and hold on longer.

but please tell me what your trying and I can help you out, I know how annoying it is when you can't get it.

Born in the 70s? That's rather "age"ist ....What hope do those of us born in the 60's have then?

My preferred trick is to try to stay out of the E.R....

Because kite companies would never do this. It doesn't make sense as a business to make a product that only does one thing.

not trying anything new. been doing it for years more recently NOT doing mostly blameing on injury but whatever. what i have been doing is slowly using kites that are more aggressively designed for that particular run of tricks. kl3's f163's dl3's etc i couldnt care less about me and my kites i want to know what you and your trick is and what kite your using and even more importantly the entire reason for the post is createing the ultimate kite for that specific trick. no patents etc just a one off design for a single trick.

I see what your getting at, but I think the kites are out there already that suit individual styles. It's more about Taylor ing your gear to better your own style. Things like changing line lengths, bar width and other gear choice has a big impact on how easy it is to do certain tricks/style of riding. Most company's will always design gear for the masses to sell more product, rather than put out something that will excel at one thing.

yeah like right now the vegas has like 18 different ways you can rig it but that's without modifying the actual canopy etc. just from line settings and 5/6 line option. thats without even counting changing bar lengths etc

and yeah most companies like money obviously.

so

if you are like me and only do one trick. what trick is it? and what does your kite need to do this perfectly?

i allready have a reasonably good idea on whats required for mine theres not to much room for improvement. but only half an idea for other tricks that i dont do maybe never even done hence why im asking you guys .... i need to learn how to ask questions better obviously

My favourite trick is a backmobe. My all time favourite kite for this was a 15m best ts, you keep it really low and you could right straight at it for ages then load up and it would smack you hard like at cable.

I think it comes down to feel. It will always be easier to land tricks on a kite you feel at home on. As I get older, the more tricks I am loosing but I love doing front flip based tricks or back mobes. I also love C kites but hate the vegas and torch. I currently ride hifi's on 25m lines and 38cm bar.

What's a BJ5?

Seriously though 5line C-kites are the easiest kites to learn tricks on.

Love how he goes so big, so technical, so much risk and still all in footstraps!Shows that you really don't need boots to ride freestyle.

Are you kidding me! This was a terrible edit. He has progressed tenfold, kiteboarding has definitely progressed. 9/10 of that tricks were lofty dangle pop my shoulder passes. And half of them were crashes.
Loops were still cool tho.
