Thats unfortunate! Is it really necessary to hurl abuse at people just for the sake of it? The guy in question is a super friendly and warm personality which I doubt any of you guys are. Think about it.
but at least I know how to behave myself on the beach, I'm friendly and helpfull and don't abuse people. I've had this many many times with the "locals" being the tough guys and thinking they own the place. Why? Because you've been there longer? So? In Spain, France/Germany/Italy (skiing/snowboarding) you can get the same reactions at some spots.. Get over yourselves it's never gonna be like "back in the day" when you had the place for youselves and you could strutt your stuff, that's just reality guys. 
Although I doubt that you will be treated that way, see most guys everywhere I've kited are actually mature enough to behave
