my thoughts are that when traveling I only want to take one kite, usually a 10. and then cop whatever conditions i get so Range is most important.
I see the effort going into kite design to eliminate trailing edge flutter to gain durability and lengthen performance life, on strutted kites and most so on 3 strut kites. So going strutless cancels this out.

My 10 packs down to carry on luggage so i see no gain in weight loss.

when traveling, conditions you encounter are mostly less than ideal for most of the time you are traveling (Murphy's Law)

Give me a 5 strut 10m any day.

Just saw in another post that also RRD is going strut less...
Every one is jumping on the wagon!

As a shop owner I try to test every kite that I sell before ordering them..
I pretty much don't sell what I think is not good!

Is my opinion also that pretty much every kite out there are now pretty OK, I still flown some lemon but it could be just me as owner where quite happy till I let them try my kite!!!

But today the most important thing is to get the right kite for your conditions of wind and water and also what you want from the kite and that suit you..
Kite are more specialized then before.

For instance as I'm riding most of the time in side on shore to on shore wind I moved from dedicated waves kite to 2 struts multi purpose/beginner kites.. They work better for me and in my wind/waves conditions. I can also enjoy them more with different styles of boards...

The RRD strutless 12m is ?799 compared to ?840 for a 12m Vision MK3 RRD 3 strut kite only.

We are more likely to see the RRD strutless being tested along with other kites, so it will be interesting to see how it compares. There seems to be a big difference between how the Airush Zero and the Cloud strutless kites perform, so none of them seem to be 'typical' strutless kites as yet.
Kites like the Naish Trip and the Epic with battens along the LE are strutless but in a different way, so there is a question over that aspect of the design too.

I guess eventually strutless design will congregate around maximising the features where it has advantages while minimising the disadvantages.

Self Rescue could be an issue? I have had to self rescue when the wind died or changed off shore 2 times in 7 years. If you get into trouble, you deflate the leading edge, keep struts inflated, wrap harness around kite and have a swim in with a long tube. How would you self rescue on a strut less kite?

You could not swim against the wind with the kite inflated, and you couldn't deflate the kite and swim in as above. Is there a way to self rescue?

Ps I am also designing a strutles kite for the fun of it...

hahahahahahaha. I guess we add that one to the list as well ay?
