was out again on my 6m switchblade ids and i weigh 53kgs in winds gusting to 42 knots. i just came back and it was insane. check graphs for saint kilda just so u know i am not lying.

Last Friday was out on 12m Rebel launched in 25-28 but 15 minutes into it 30-35 was a lot of fun but the strength and fitness ran out quickly.Had no other choice of kite.Received the 8m 09 rebel 2 days ago and guess what? 15knot Westerly great 12m conditions. May be a while before I find out if the 8 is good for 40?

Just to clear up a few things, just because one gust (or it was gusting to) 28knots doesn't mean you were out in 28knots, it could be (but not likely) like 40% below that (if an extreme gust) (BOM says gusts can be 140% of the constant windspeed)

Almost shat my pants when I launched off a half foot wave and landed at least 20cm downwind. What a day!

54kts waxman i cant stand up in 54 kts. for me i was on the lake in a westerly on my 10m sb and it was 15kts for about 20mins then big squalls came through and i thought yes i will die . made it in and a mate had a wind guage up and told me it got to 38kts. most prob stronger up higher.

Yeh that beacon always seems a bit exagerated, but may still be correct??

Last night was one of those typical whyalla nights where the seagulls fly backwards. Maxed out on the 9m in the gusts.

I would have sworn it was 28knts gusting to 40. The airport said it was 23-31knts. The beacon said 32-39knts.

Getting F'ing massive air on those gusts.

Right, I think I might be sold on the idea of flying a smaller kite on the windier days. I weigh 97-100kg so I can ride with my 12m naish pretty comfortably even in quite strong wind. I`m not sure about wind speeds I don`t carry a wind speed thingy. But yesterday I was teaching my daughter on a 8m Rise and I decided to have a go when she was finished. Wow, it was such good fun! With yesterdays wind I didn`t think the 8m would even get me going much, but I was wrong. Because the kite is so quick I just had to work the kite a few times and it got me up to speed. Even getting me up in the air wasn`t a problem. It was such a rush because I`m so used to flying the 12m the 8m is like getting out of your old trusty 4x4 and jumping into a ferrari. And the quickness of the kite definitly teaches you better handling skills as I experienced, one over steer on the bar and your ribs are gonna pay. Good Fun!
