Gee, don't talk sharks, I keep telling my wife they are friendly and just to think of them as speed motivators.

Anyway have been looking forward to this for a while, did not get in last year, over the moon I'm in this year

On wind and gear, I'm always reminded of a old sailing piece of wisdom,

"When is the best time to change down,
the first time you think of it."

Wise advice, go with your gut on the day

Though I want over 20knots [}:)][}:)] and personally think if you can't handle a suprise 30+ you probably should not be out there.

But have been on the water for many, many year I certainly would not want to be in rescue boat in 30+ knots.

Can't wait only one more sleep

seabreeze says 13-18.
bom says 18-23.

who is right?!? that is the qn....

my money is 13-18 only because my kite choice is that way inclined.

Stephen Bradbury is my inspiration for tomorrow. Thanks to WAKSA and others involved in organising. Bring on the Rotto bakery for kiting fuel.

Yep still saying 13 - 18.
Hope BOM is right though.
Best news is Alex wont be there. He was my main worry.

What's the go? Where's the live update? I'm stuck at the other corner of Australia and by my watch the first finishers should have come in by now, if it started on time?

There were kiters that started on the yellow flag down which was one minute too soon and then I believe others followed so a few disqualifed.

Too many broke the start. Sent the 'who won' rumour stakes on the beach into chaos.
At the end of the day we saw Marty Farrow come in officially 3rd (2nd year in a row) Alex ? (sorry missed the 2nd name) taking 2nd place and one of our favourite sons of Perth kiting Dale Stanton (aka the bearded hillbilly) proudly mounting the central podium.
Well done Dale.
Keira ?; who bravely opted for her 12M when all were in doubt; took out 1st place for the ladies with no runners up announced ??? Dont know why?

But the real winner on the day - considering the huge variation in forecasts discussed the past few days - was Seabreeze. Winning over BOM by a huge margin.
Lauries reputation as the undisputed guru of Perth weather predictions was (unfortunately) reinforced as the best place to go for accurate predictions.

NB: When the official times come out pls deduct 7 mins from puppets time due to a very unnecessary re-rigging needed on the beach as the starting gun sounded DOH
Wishing now I had gone the 17M Speed !!! Damn hard work all the way on anything less than a 15M.

Had a blast.

Best moments of the day, since I couldn't pick one, was kiting with an awesome bunch of lads/girls.

Kiting next to the Cargo ships towering the sky, unreal view.

Avoiding the tangle on the start line! (good to see the kiss and make up at the after party)

Not falling off for 19kms!

Picking the 14 over the 11!

Worst moment was getting "luffed" onto my back on take off from the beach (Far south). Rather embarrassing.

I'm going to put that one in the memory back. Thanks to all involved. Bloody great day.

The organisers were great at leighton and commented that there will be some disqualifications. That what happens with racing. Was an awesome event with a true party atmosphere on the beach at leighton. Thanks to WAKSA, RED RULL for the tunes, and all the volunteers that gave up their time and their weekend right before Christmas. Pure Stoke! The judges have the final say, as thats why their judges. A great event for the sport! All those who were racing, organising, or sponsors KUDOS to you all.

I'm sure there will be some great footage posted eventually.

Chatting to people after the race it seemed everyone had a story to tell.
The start was pretty tricky with the wind very light, I was concentrating on keeping my kite in the air, avoiding others and watching the start flags but when the green came up I could see that there was quite a few that were over the start line.

Got to feel sorry for Ric, I believe the poor bugger might have a broken bone or two in his foot after a big stack but was on a flight back East last night, hope you got home ok mate.

Well done to all involved absolute awesome event and a great venue for a few ales to celebrate whilst watching the sunset over Rottnest.

Right now though my head hurts, I can't find my sunglasses and my car is at Cottesloe....I need coffee.

What a frantic start! kites in the water, two kites tangled on the start line, but was a fantastic race in the end.
Big kites dominated the day with wind wafting on and off I wasnt too sure I was going to make it on my 11m.
Thanks to Tim, WAKSA Redbull etc you guys put on a great event.

Yes it would be interesting to know brands and sizes etc.
I am pretty sure Dale was on a 14mtr Cabrinha, I was talking to him at the start and remember commenting that I thought 14 was a good size.

Race manual says

Signal Flag & sound Minutes before
Starting signal
Line Open Class Flag, one long sound 10
Warning Red Flag up, one sound 5
Preparatory Yellow Flag up, one sound 4
One minute Yellow Flag removed 1
Start Green flag up, one sound 0

Those whole false started went of what they thought was the starter horn. In the race manual it only mentions the yellow flag going down and no sound.

That being said, the race was great fun awesome event with race officials and organizers doing a great job and hats off to the eventual winners that did catch the few of us that made a silly school boy error.

Great crowd on the beach too, well done WAKSA and Redbull.
