I know that "Spell Check" is an accessory of M.S. Word that can be turned on or off and that it is based on American spelling [}:)].

Is it also a feature of the posting on this forum, or are you saying that the person should read their post and "Spell Check" it themselves before posting it as I do?

If it is a feature of this forum, how is it turned on?

Bastardisation of our language through laziness in typing or a lack of command of our language has caused misunderstanding and resultant conflict on this forum more than once.

It is an issue that all of should be aware of and deal with. There is nothing wrong with using colloquialisms or lapseing into the vernacular if the occasion or subject warrants it. After all they are part of the array of things we use to express ourselves precisely in any given situation.

Quite obviously this is "off topic" from "climate change whos paying?", which should be "Climate Change, who's paying?", or something similar.

We all seem to be fairly intelligent people on this forum. If we were not, we probably would not be engaged in wind sports or discussion of the range of subjects found on the forum.

Dare I suggest we should all pick up our collective act when posting to the forum?

Yes I do. Cheers Cisco

Mmmmm I disagree Cisco, it's the message that is communicated that's important, not crossing the t's and dotting the i's...

but the message must be coherent.

in this medium, we are communicating in written english.

if you expect to be taken seriously, make the effort to communicate clearly.

"they" are breaking down the intergenerational communication syntaxes by corrupting the written and spoken law of language.

divide and conquer is "their" modus operandi

That's right doc. Akin to George Orwell's "New Speak".

cisco, I did mean spell check as in to re-read the message and fix any errors. Like you, I do that and usually also reread the entire message from the beginning before posting to make sure that it does make sense. Often that results in me changing a word here and there to remove ambiguities. Whereas a spell checker embedded here or in Word may not pick the difference between "to" and "too" since both are valid spellings. The one in Word does pick out some grammatical errors but with mixed results. For example it often tells me I'm writing a sentence fragment when I know I'm not ("Bull****!" is a complete sentence thank you Mr Word!!)

Of course, I agree completely with you and the Doc on this. The messages here are written in English. If people can't write English clearly then the message risks being garbled and misunderstood and we get falur2cmunik8.

maybe...................... J**us. who the hell's gonna pay for this, climate.

maybe easier to just not change it. [}:)]
