......Right now you could buy an average house in Sydney for 10BTC but back in 2010, 10,000 BTC could only buy you two pizzas.

finance.yahoo.com/news/bitcoin-pizza-day-story-behind-150023085.html

Been thinking about this.

Back in 2010 I don't believe you could have bought anything with bitcoin. Almost nobody had heard of it and I bet there wasn't a single pizza shop in the world accepting bitcoin as a payment method. The only thing you could 'buy' with bitcoin was dollars - and that was if you had the tech know-how and could find some other geek willing to do swapsies.

I'd suppose the bitcoin blockchain has the answer.

So could you fact check (via the blockchain) how much bitcoin was sold in 2010 ? More or less than two pizza's worth.

Okey-Dokey.

Seems once again I stand corrected.

Mind you, at least I don't look as big a dick as Laszlo Hanyecz.

You can look up the transaction by using this guide:

I'd just like to point out that HH must either not be thinking particularly critically about his new profile pic, or he must be super into irony!

You might have stumbled across the only Super Irony Black Hole in this galaxy D3. At the Event Horizon, or rim, the nature of everything changes. I would go as far as to say a few of our resident RWNJ's might have got caught up in the existential crisis when pushing past the rim.

Is it a modern thing to create a meme and then treat it like the viewpoint has some merit? I think so, but in a way it has been happening for ages. Some people come up with quotes from random people all the time. Random people who may or may not have been good or smart people but got taught in private schools to children to swallow down as if they meant something.

"Don't think, produce a quote from someone" has been replaced with "dont' think, create a meme with a cute puppy dog".

As per the example quoted, someone has gone to the trouble of creating something and then added all these hashtags so that people can understand it. If something is so obvious, why do you need hashtags? It's all about "me" and how good I am with my judgement.

I don't even agree with its argument. If you are completely stupid its pretty hard to be offended by anything. Add a little intelligence to someone and suddenly they see insights and maybe things start to offend them. Go too far that way and maybe they see themselves as above the rest of the population and thus don't get offended, but how many people are like that?

I guess we could sit back and say a lame meme is not offensive because the author and publisher is an idiot, but being human its hard to not be bothered by something that is trying to reduce real people down to a level of ridicule. It's almost like an argument from a racist trying to tell you that their attempt at ridicule of someone else is innocent because 'it's just a joke and a smart person wouldn't be offended by it'.

Re-read the text in that meme.

And have a think about who has:
-been using more reasonable or more juvenile language while trying to discuss certain points.
-who has overreacted to criticism
- who doesn't want to have to deal with other viewpoints, especially if they involve trying to understand slightly complex ideas or issues

Perhaps the quote would make more sense if it read "the more easily you get offended the less emotionally intelligent you
actually are" . But overall I feel the whole approach is too simplistic to apply to humans. The psychological impacts of experiences can be so deeply rooted that the body's autonomic systems are running the show. The higher cognitive stuff doesn't even get a look in until much later.

Global Polio Vaccination
Polio cases have decreased by more than 99%.
Two types of vaccines are available to help prevent polio.
Polio eradication is possible - but challenges remain.

In 1988, the World Health Assembly passed a resolution to eradicate polio, leading to the establishment of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI). As a result, partners including CDC are working together to ensure that every child receives several doses of polio vaccines.
Since the launch of GPEI, polio cases have decreased by more than 99%. In addition, polio vaccines have prevented an estimated 20 million cases of paralysis in children since 1988.

Vaccines have stopped the spread of wild poliovirus in all but two countries: Afghanistan and Pakistan. However, other countries have experienced outbreaks of poliovirus variants, which can emerge in areas where immunization rates are low.

Success in eradicating polio will mean that no more children will have to experience the devastating effects of the disease.

Perhaps the U.N umbrella organisations should concentrate on doing a lot more to stop the thousand plus bombs reigning down on the poor kids of Gaza rather than give them at the very least questionable shots.

Do you know what critical thought is?
I think Remery did a course on it as part of his evaluation of scientific data.
I think you just make it up as you go along.

However, I agree with you about Gaza, there's just too much suffering going on there.

You can mitigate a whole lot of things with a bag of those special mushrooms you can buy at some Asian Grocery store in Melbourne and then whack 'em in a Beef Wellington.
