Just like Scottie has shown. Racism is in the eye of the beholder (I'm happy. To say 'x' but I'd never say 'y')
My West Indian mate in London (he was born & bred n London like most of us) told me (in his opinion) Paki was just as offensive as nigger. Yet here in Aus it appears perfectly acceptable to call the cricket team Paki's on the radio (5 years ago now, not sure if we have evolved since then).
I've also et a few Brits that do not appreciate the term Pom.
IMO Australia is the most racist place I have ever been. But I do live in Qld, (bless 'em)
BTW a West Indian is not a Paki. He's a Windy. Pakistanis are Pakis, Kiwis are well just Kiwis, poms are poms. If you're speaking Cricket that is. Sepppos are Seppos and speak crap hence the septic tank term. poms just whinge about everything and still regret sending the bad people to the best place while they stayed on a little, cold island that rains too much.
Yes Australia is a racist country, that's why indeed people from all over the world are busting their a$$ to get here.
There are a lot of things still rough and rugged about this country, I circumnavigated Europe a couple of months ago and the best advice I got was to tell people straight up I was Aussie not Roast Beef. Everyone I met over there had either been and loved or could not wait to get to Australia. Even if they did think our wine was crap.
We are Aussies and have so much to be proud of, sure there are gooses but the Aussie good hearted Larrikin still exists and of all the places I have been it is the best place on this planet. Names are names and we have them for everyone. I for one do not think the erosion of the Aussie culture to not offend others ridiculous sensitivities is good for this country. We are what we are I love it.
