I think that this is an extremely sensitive subject and not really suitable for a flippant forum discussion. There is a range of possibilities which exist to the validity of an answer posted to the question of self evaluation of mental state.
1/ You claim to be sane and mentally balanced. The reality is that you are insane, totally mentally imbalanced and completely unable to self recognise the situation.
2/ You claim to be mad, loopy, nuts or whatever. The reality is that you are flippantly answering the question with a "smart" comment, or you are actually slightly mad and recognise this as a full sanity.
3/You claim to be sane based on a rational self evaluation and discussions with your therapist/self help guru. In reality you are a mentally balanced and stable person.
4/ You recognise and can discuss a particular mental/medical condition to which you display appropriate symptoms (during periods of lucidity which may vary in length and frequency). The reality is that you have a mental illness.
The forum is not really an appropriate place to make these self assessments.
FAR BETTER to discuss the mental state of other forum members. I accuse you **** and **** and **** of being stark raving lunatics. And if you name is **** you will know exactly who you are[}:)][}:)][}:)]

My mental status is about 50% overall:

Since they gave me this new 64 bit quad core things have been a bit easier than in my profile pic (32 bit dual core).

Looks like your service CPU is slacking on the job there GreenPat. You should demand more service.

Well we seem to have a good collection of techno loonies.
If only the power could be harnessed and focused.
Why we could levitate, or send coded messages to the crab nebula that would keep those crab nebulese puzzled for years.

Who's with me?

Those for levitation line up on the left.
Those for intergalactic practical jokes on the right.

i am putting together a pc for a mate for his recording studio that is the same spec as mine without water cooling. only difference is the case is acoustic treated zalman H2 with hot swapable drive bays and it has 2 sli gt9800 fanless cards.

will be sweet!

I win!

Why limit ourselves to just one choice, NotWal? With all this computing power we could try levitating the crab nebulese. They'll never know what's going on. It'll drive them mad.

You may have 12 cores, but none of them are doing any work...

In my defence, mine is a laptop.

Suffering from serious processor envy..

Pushing sh!t uphill crunching numbers doing audio on my main system - with a single 3Gb processor and only 2Gb RAM.. Some days I have to peddle the bicycle so kn hard it's gonna be the death of me!

We will stop the ships! We will decide if the crab nubulese come to this country and the circumstances in which they come. And if necessary we will turn their ships around!

@GF, sounds like you need to talk to the Melon Headed One. In my case, it's not mine, it's just one of the monster servers where I work. Us plebs have to make do with a daggy old dual core laptop.

@pr - the damn thing never seems to slow down, no matter how many apps i run or how intensive those apps are. i can't see the point in 6 core. i'd much prefer quad core 4-5g processors.

@ doggie, it's not permanently clocked. the mobo is like a twin cam engine. when you need the power it clocks. goes back to normal when you don't need it. very clever. i use it for cad

@ getfunky, i see your problem, you're using a mac. . seriously your 3g single core and 2 gig of ram should do music fine. i've recorded 8 tracks from a kit no isuues and then done a 24-30 track mixdown on a 2.4g machine. i don't use vrtual instruments or inboard eefects though. that'll kill anything. i much prefer analogue outboard gear and instrumentation and only use the pc as a digital tape machine.

Gesty - Lotsa instances of native processing is my bread n butter (yeh - I'd prefer a nice LA4 accross a vocal too) with you on the digital recording but analogue summing/processing. Unfortunately it's also not how any of the facilities I use are geared.

The B&W I retired some time ago. The less said about that citrus item the better. Mac = spac

yeah i'm lucky that the gear i access is all highend tube compressors and preamp units. drawmer, tc audio, fatman etc. only thing digital is the reverb which is still outboard lexicon and tc electronics. plus the desk is a soundcraft spirt auto (24) and the preamps in that are incredible.

means the converters need to be high quality also and i try to go outboard only once during mixdown to keep quality as high as possible.

i am yet to hear vst effects that sound as good as outboard boxes yet. unfortunately. although i'm hoping to try the new lexicon software at some point. if the guy that owns the studio buys it. first upgrade will be from the delta card to aurora 16 so that's exciting stuff.

am looing to experiment with the acustica nebula bundle. which is why the pc above has the graphics card power it does so it can be done via cuda. at least that way it's not using up resources.
