That's the FE dogma but have you ever tested it? The way to test it is with survey kit. You set up a dumpy level carefully on a on a sandbar so it's perpendicular and horizontal (they have bubble levels for that) and sweep it around over the water. If you've done it correctly you'll find the horizon is slightly below the centre of the telescope reticle everywhere.
I guess you haven't done that but you could present it as a challenge to your FE colleagues. They've gone to some lengths to prove things in the past.
I am frequently amused by Flerfers performing quite substantial activities in attempt to disprove globe earth, only to confirm the globe or at the very least disprove Flat

You should go and watch a Faucoult pendulum, there's a good one at the Griffith Observatory. It's only 15,036.25 km away but you would have to fly along a curved route.

You could go down the local park and make your own Foucault Pendulum.
How does Foucault's pendulum prove the Earth isn't flat? I thought it just shows that the disc rotates.
I think that the fact that the angle of precession changes with latitude, means that the Earth must be curved.
And for a wild guess, I think the angle at the equator is the angle of Earths axis. But don't quote me on that

With only 606 posts you're relatively new here, Pete's Flat Earth nonsense has been going on or ages. All the proof/arguments have been presented to him, with examples how he can find the truth for himself, but he won't do any of them, or respond to any reasonable question logically. His standard answer is, "do the research yourself" by which he means look at the same CT sources he does.
He still thinks a boat disappearing over the horizon can be brought back with a big enough telescope. Even though he's been shown uncontroversial evidence that it can't.
He still thinks level and straight are the same thing.
He posted an experiment by a couple of CTers going up in a plane with a level, supposedly proving that the earth was flat between 2 cities, That's the level of his logic, ironically it's his logic that's circular.
So don't expect to succeed, where everybody else has failed over a very long period.
But don't let me stop you from trying, it keeps the thread alive.
Thanks, I'll admit to having lurked long enough to have been exposed to PM33 before the name change.
Part of what I'm trying here is to develop my abilities to engage better with more people on more topics. Not working great yet, but there has been small improvements.
And if I manage to have actual, honest interaction with PM/PC, so much the better.
Another part is a lot more indirect,by exposing others who share similar attitudes, values and beliefs to some of the flaws and weaknesses of the arguments they put forward on other topics.
Essentially, if they promote or defend an idea/theory by use the same types of arguments, evidence and logic that PM/PC does with Flat Earth?
Maybe they should reevaluate how they came to that point?
