Yep Sick em, you are spot on, the Chrysler had the forward hinge on their Wagon before we did it. We wanted the fast roofline, the program team had an internal pass through dimension on the tailgate that they wanted to meet. Moving the hinge forward achieved both objectives and had the added advantage of changing the tailgate swing path so you can open it when you have reversed in close to walls.
I was heavily involved in the design, we are a team so can't claim to be the designer. Original theme and scale model done by the now design director Richard Ferlazzo who did the Efijy above. I took the theme and executed the full size with the team.

As I mentioned earlier in this post to the doubters, GM Design has lots of innovative and exciting work going on in the global studios. This was revealed overnight, I am a bit surprised they did it so early ahead of the Geneva show.......enjoy

That's a real eye opener. Again, let's wait and see how the bean counters and board room jocks dumb it down first.

I love the door design, the overall form and proportions and the door engineering around the wheel arch. I also like the move to smaller, efficient engines driving a lighter car, a concept previously perfected by the Lotus Elise. Looks better than the Elise too.

I don't think the colour accent helps but it grabs attention for a concept.

Hopefully it doesn't end up like this 1975 Opel GT concept. Lovely shark-gilled beauty:
