Gill surfboards (circa 1960) - Sth Melbourne, Vic
Does anyone own and know of Max Gill himself back in the day?

I have an old 9'2" Gill board (pics below) purchased from a shop in Torquay back in the early 90s. I've had the board re-sprayed as per the pics. The only physical mod was the fin itself, where it originally had a large "nose" fin, and I wanted the traditional D style fin, but the guy at another shop had no idea what I wanted and stuffed up the shape. Looks more like an "A" shape. She surfs really well though!

I did see another Gill malibu at a retro surfboard shop near Kirra, QLD. She too was for sale and was a beauty! I think the shop is still there next to the Antique shop in McClean St Coolangatta.

That's all the history I know. According to someone that knew Max back in South Melbourne, he unfortunately passed away recently in NSW. Is that true?

Enjoy!
