A trough will linger over the Peninsula or northern Cooktown waters for several days and may develop into a monsoon trough from Thursday. Weak tropical low 17U is forecast to form in the northwest Coral Sea by Thursday and may linger for several days.
Weather Situation for South Queensland
A low [991 hPa] well east of Australia has generated a brief period of increased swell. The low will approach New Zealand on Wednesday and cross it on Thursday. A ridge extends over the south Queensland waters. A weak high may briefly move into the southern Coral Sea on Thursday. On Friday, a weak trough may cross the southeast waters during the morning, followed by a new ridge as a high moves into the Tasman Sea.
