I swapped my 4m Frigate for the Quest 3.5 & 4.5 unfortunately in that photo the wind only got to 10 to 14 and that's been it for wind since then . I chugged for an hour with the 4.5 . I got so so close a few times but just couldn't quite hold the launch . The Quest for me was way way easier to fly than the Frigate I could almost park it . Good example I could hold 2 Quest in one hand .
Haha that's the classic new to parawing routine, frothing and going out in the wrong conditions. I've always been a "just send it and you'll learn something from the session" kind of guy but with parawing especially the early stages you're really just best waiting for the right conditions (say a steady 18kn). In the right wind range it's actually "not that hard" in the wrong wind conditions it can be hugely frustrating.
Sub 12 knots makes learning hard, but clean 12-15k with a 5m Smik was good learning cond for me. Reasonably flat water helps too - confused sea/swell makes it much harder

Right on. You'll be there no time. My first Parawing sessions were in 30+ rough water conditions, way overpowered. That lit was easy get to foil, thought ehhh, no problem this parawinging. But... after that was a total S show screaming downwind out of control, full catapult to yard sale ejects repeatedly. I perfected putting my face under water screaming F bombs at the top of my lungs to the depths of the Pacific Ocean. Pretty sure I woke up sleeping Humpbacks miles away. Gusty, lully, light days- sometimes still do.
Haha good on you Rob for giving it a crack, for what it's worth I much prefer the PW content over FD!
Main thing I noticed that will help is really try to get more into your surf stance once up on foil, it will allow you to lean against the pull of the parawing making you more stable, allow you to hold on edge on the foil for better upwind angles as well as get you back that front to back pitch control. Once you get settled in hooking into the harness makes it a lot more comfortable.
Get your hand a little bit more forward on the bar.

Rob your cracking it there you just need more wind by looks of video hard to say by visual ofcoarse but my rule of thumb go FD or supfoil if below 16/17 kts forget it PW,the PW fun starts at 18kts if you can try a axis minidart 90/100L cheat code if you ask me but I'm bit heavier than you Lol 100kgs +

Yeah I'm just grabbing what I can wind wise , I have picked a really bad time of year where I live to take up the Para so if it's over 15 I'm in the water for now anyway.

My quest came with the harness point closer to the front (orange) section of the bar. It is essentially a mid point between where you would position your 2 hands on the bar. If it positioned at the back of the bar it will stall out the PW for sure. You are doing amazing and I am looking forward to seeing your journey. Your learning curve is about to get very steep 💪

Cool. I haven't seen a bottom of the bar loop before. Let us know how that works when you do it. I'm always hooking my loop into the front of the bar with the paras I've tried.

When you hook into a harness it is night and day better but move the harness to the top of the bar. The para will be way easier to fly.
Makes me feel human seeing these vids and being on the Ping-ing journey myself. You're smashing it, considering the added camera f#@k around. The Lime bike shuttle is the light-bulb moment for me. Wonder how Lime would feel about board racks on the GC?![]()

I popped up instantly on the 3.5 switch and FMD the harness was just so good and comfortable I actually really enjoyed myself . Linked together a heap of gybes , still haven't stashed yet as I was just reaching and pointing up wind hard as I could but great day , just frothing and loving it .
Finally got a solid 20+ today after work in flat water and finally hooked up . OMG what difference clean strong wind makes . I popped up instantly on the 3.5 switch and FMD the harness was just so good and comfortable I actually really enjoyed myself . Linked together a heap of gybes , still haven't stashed yet as I was just reaching and pointing up wind hard as I could but great day , just frothing and loving it .

PW is all about strong consistent wind, anything less is just annoying. So many beginners go out in too light wind and just slog back and forth, they would be better to stay on a wing for those days.
Rob, today is forecast to be good, catch it while you can as the doldrums are just around the corner with the westerlies the pits for PW.
I'm about 15 days in to my parawing journey... I think the one advice I'd give/follow is that you need to burn some good winging days to learn on the parawing. It's much easier to learn in good conditions than try to learn as a side activity when the conditions falter (which I had been doing... sometimes going for 10 minutes at a time). Finally put in four days in a row, and that really helped... still have struggles sometime (usually from taking too small equipment).
What I'm using most of the time now for my 87kg:
-KT Super K Pro 90l
-Duotone Glide 2.0 D/LAB 900
also sometimes use:
-Duotone Skybrid D/LAB 70l
-Duotone Crest D/LAB 800
-AFS Silk 850
The larger 900 foil seems to have a lot more low end pump and can get me foiling with less board speed. The 90l board vs 70l is nice when the wind is lighter, but riding a 70l super light board also feels great. Actually finding I'm having some really great winging sessions on the larger gear with my 4.5.
I've been fairly conservative going too far out into the Bay here as the far side is the shipping channel and we have strong currents, but I have stowed three times onto ferry wakes with two successful redeploys.
I'm really liking using my wing harness (ION Rogue) for a harness and board leash point... I'm a foot switcher, so leashing to a stash belt that you need to rotate all the time was leash hell. Also, I found Ozone stash belt made for a poor harness... need to get it pretty tight to be useful as a harness, and then it was harder to rotate. Now just use my regular harness and put the stash belt on top and I don't even have to rotate it to the back to sail normally (although the bag does hang over the hook just a tiny bit but no big deal). Having a real harness that has support and a spreader bar that doesn't need to be super tight to work has been a big improvement.
My friend captured a vid of me on a ferry wake... sloppy wake, sloppy stow, and sloppy redeployment, but it all worked out... it was about a 2min ride in all. 1 min to stow (there was a lot of cross chop from other boat traffic, so didn't know whether I could lock into a spot on the wake to get it done or not), a fun little section to ride, and then a sloppy redeploy (had to shake out a line wrap, but was glad I was able to do that on the fly).... had to leave immediately and get int he car and pick up my kiddo from school otherwise I would have ridden the wake longer.

Are there benefits to a one handed launch? Using free arm to counter balance (the chop when slightly veering downwind and wobbly board). One handed is harder pumping though.

Two handed is better. Learn your foot switches.
All beginners should be extra aware that if you are holding that bar one handed and riding or starting toeside you are exposing your shoulder to injury if hit by a gust. I'd guess its the most likely injury to any new parawinger.

I think the beauty of it is that there's no need to foot swap with the PW. Unlike winging where you're twisted up holding the wing, riding the PW one handed toeside is relatively easy. I guess it takes one thing out of the process, foot swapping.
I personally like the feeling of leaning out frontways hanging onto the PW.
