On my PR 3 I have a strange bar feeling. It feels like the back lines are too long, thus the bar feels constantly sheeted in (at least more than on other parawings). On my PR 4.3 and my MBR Maliko v1 the bar feeling is much more neutral. I have checked all bridle lengths against the Ozone bridle maintenance guide but all of them are within the 2cm tolerance. Can anybody confirm this feeling for the PR 3?

I'm not familiar with the P.R. 3 but the BRM V2 in the larger sizes feel like this to me. In light winds especially, I have to constantly trim the front of the bar to depower the wang so it doesn't stall. The bar in neutral position is angled towards me unlike the V1 which is much more comfortable to ride in low winds. The V2 have much better top end and better overall but do take a bit more effort sometimes.

I don't have a PR but ...

Check Jeff Howard's post on the FB Parawing group from June 20th where he talks about a custom bar for the PR.
For his bar the pigtails for the B-lines are 1" shorter than for the A-lines and pigtails for the C-lines 1" shorter than for the B-lines.
He says this makes the bar straight when powered.
Maybe it it designed that way?

Just received my 4.3 PR. Jaysus I can't see how I'm going to stuff this down the front of my undies while foiling on a bump - I had a hard enough time getting it together standing on a flat workshop floor...
No wind today of course so had to run up & down the driveway until I got giddy & passed out.

Got my rockets today, 2.4m and 3m. I opted for the 3m on my first session in 22-23 knot average with peak recorded gusts at 33 knots. 3m was a dream on the Silk 1050 and Enduro 900. When the wind dropped to 20 knot average with lulls to 15 knots it was questionable getting back on foil but other than that I had a blast.

You should easily get up on 3m PR in 15 to 20 knots with some practice.

Yeah I started noticing little tricks with it on the first session and could see how once I get better command over its position in the wind window things will get easier at lower wind speeds. Gusty spot that day too, lots of holes that help noone.

After just one day I'd say yes. The rocket felt like a high aspect 3m wing. Nuanced low end that is harder to generate power on takeoff but excellent top end. I'd also say that the body fatigue and management of my 3m rocket felt lighter than my 3m mid aspect wing. Once you're hooked in it's cake.

I did Andy Corbe's clove hitch trick on the lines to test out shorter lines on my 4.3. I liked the way it flew much better and wadding was far easier. I'm going to shorten the lines on it and the 3.6 soon. Here's Andy's text from the FB parawing group:

Here's a rough and ready bridle shortening mod I did today by clove hitching the lines to the bar which shortens by almost exactly 9 inches. I'm guessing that's how that dimension was established in the first place? Takes 5 min, you have to take off one end to get the hitch on the B lines and they also require an extra knot to keep the same proportional length. I did this after a super frustrating session yesterday where I got zero successful deployments. I switched to the old d-wing halfway through and was back to 100% success. With the shortened bridle today I was almost 100% success so it makes a massive difference. Its not mm accurate but works well enough and I'll ride it like this until either Ozone releases a kit or I'll get one made myself.

I was really pleased to have only one twisted (not tangled) deployment through all my retracts and redeploys on day one. It happened when I grabbed all lines for a stall retract. Whenever I did just the C lines I was fine (not stowing though).

Can I get some anecdotes on where people are riding their PR 3 and 3.6m at the TOP end? Not looking for the "hanging on for dear life" max, but the realistic top end. I'm 80kg and have a fairly wide range of foils and boards. Trying to flush out my quiver and deciding between these sizes. I have a 4.3 so low end isn't really my concern. Thanks!

You're using a harness right? 3m is very comfortable for me up to 30 knots with a harness and briefly unhooking for gybes. I'm also good with it up to 35 knots with a harness but when I have to unhook for gybes I must be pointed downwind and I think that's probably the "hanging on for dear life" max you are talking about

Yes, using a harness. my normal conditions max out in the high 20s. I see 30s sometimes but mid to high 30s is pretty unusual. Trying to decide whether I go for more overlap and less top end with the 3.6 (allowing me to get off the 4.3 earlier) or expand the range more with the 3. I'd get more use out of the 3.6 but cold probably go either way.
at my local I get a lot of use out of my 3.5 wing but not as much out of my 3.

62 (6'0) and 85 (6'4) liter pwing boards.

Every size smaller is such a joy to use that it's hard to not encourage people to go smaller. I wish I could ride 2.4m every day. The 3m will give you more use in the Gorge when you visit too.

Here's yesterday, 3m conditions for my 85kg on 77l 5'11"x20" Carver with the enduro 800:

The lulls were hard no-go moments but the average and gust were all excellent.

Thanks. I think I generally ride a little more powered than you on a wing, so I think I would have probably been on a 3.6 in those conditions. But that seems like a fairly moderate gorge day and I'm sure I would get a lot of use out of a 3 out there too. Been trying to keep my quivers a little thinner these days but the struggle is real!

I started out with a 3 and a 4.3 and found it was too big of a gap so I bought the 3.6. I was in the Gorge for 18 days this summer and the 3 was my most used, with several sessions on the 2.4 and only a couple on the 4.3. I'm 70 kg on a 65L mid length.
I shortened the lines on the 3.6 and 4.3 and love the improvement in response and packing. I have not noticed any loss of low end or upwind angles.

Who has used both the 4.3 and 5 and can chime in on whether or not the low end gains of the 5 vs the 4.3 are substantial or marginal?
If you can also let us know weight and gear, that would be appreciated.

I'm getting up in around 18 knts with a PR 3.6, 60L ML, 830 cm AR9ish at 78 kg.

Thanks

I'd say that the 5 is only really worth getting if you love sailing them and messing around with maneuvers. You're not going to comfortably stash that beast, but it's a whole lot of fun to practice tacks, handle-passes, etc.

I'm 86kg, on a 60L. Normally using my Code 850 on 4.3m & 5m days. Range for the 5m is probably 12 - 16 knots? 4.3m for me is usually 15+

At 5m, in the wind range you'll usually use it in - don't count on being able to jibe normally. You'll just run into it. Work on doing a "laydown handlepass jibe" or just tack it - you'll have more luck.

Tough one to answer but would u recommend the Ozone Pocket Rocket 3.6m or 4.3m to learn on in WA 18-25kts? Riding Armstrong ML75 and weigh bout 88kgs. Decent Winger, kite-foiler, kiter etc. Good access to beach etc so guessing 18-22kts. Tough choice....maybe it doesn't matter that much and just jump in?

Tough indeed.

DW SUP experience? If so 3.6 and a decent sized foil could work but not easy. If you want reliable takeoff and aren't super comfortable with DW SUP takeoffs, 4.3m is probably more reliable.

I think if I like it I'll end up with two! Maybe 4.3m to start then at 88kgs and a relatively small
board? My gut is that generally some power will make it easier at least during the learning stages?

I always prefer to be underpowered, but I think most people prefer to learn with plenty of power.

I'm 86kg and learned on a 3m PR in 25+ knots.

My board progression was 90l, 77l, 68l. All my boards were 5'11"-6'6"

I used a ton of foils while I sorted things out. At least 10. It's just about learning how to match your foil to the swell speed which is different than with a wing where you can ride any foil and different than DW SUP where your foil choice is about what you can paddle up.

If there's one thing I'd say its: Don't buy 2 Pocket Rocket sizes that are next to each other. I had 2.4m and 3m and I really should have had 1.9m and 3m. So if you buy the 4.3m, aim for the 3m next.

I thought that initially . after many sessions on both the 3.6 and 4.3 the trick is to use its aspect - it wants to hunt the edge of the window - so it won't give you that initial grunt i've felt on two other brands i've tried - but if you combine the wing pump with correct feet pump it builds board speed as you feather it back and forward in the window. This works even better if you also use the swell bumps correctly.

I found the grunty lower aspect paras i've used might give you an initial grunt forward but then fall back in the window and leave you hanging so to speak . board speed drops off and it's harder to body/ feet pump the board up. I also feel the PR was a much more stable platform for that reason when getting up. Once up . they are a dream to fly and rip upwind.

But they can be a pain to stow - gotta have your pack down sequence well sorted and repeatable.

mmm 88kgs . i'd say if it's solid 18-25 then the 3.6 - because once up the 4.3 will be a bloody handful in those winds.

I don't necessarily agree with that. I do and i don't and it depends. My mate has that gap but also he's goofy so can take off on his heel side (in WA) running with the bump direction. As a natural footer you are always heading slightly into the bumps in WA and you need that extra power. If it's in its lighter end of the range i'm forced to take off on my toes to use the swell bumps and it's defintely not as easy. Maybe in the smaller sizes you idea holds true but i am finding having the 3.6/4.3 works really well with our winds here. Recon if you are a goofy footer you could have that gap. Kinda depends like everything.
