I am thinking about entering this in 09 (the 'Ledge to Lancelin')

What preparation would you recommend/ are you going to do?

What kit will you use/ should I avoid? (thinking of Isonic 105 + JP weed fin)

What will you do differently next time you are in it?

What has worked well for you in it?
The best answers get used?
The funniest answers get laughed at!

get a cricket bat and beat your feet, till u can't take it anymore....

while a (friend) knocks you in the small of the back with a blunt instrument.

hold on to that pain...

then do it some more.....

don't know how you do it.....good on ya all....i'll be at the pub, cheering u on.

no one need worry about coming last, as that will be me, floundering at the back. But i'm going to give it a crack!

Thanks for the continued tips everyone, please keep them coming.

Training keeps on coming up as key with Windy Millers probably the best for aclimatising to the conditions

Just trying to join WWA then will register.

AUS1111 your tips also seem indispensable ..... dehydration should be avoided with your tactics

I have been in quite a few L2Ls and the best tip I could give is to sail as much as possible in the 6 months before ! I have told my wife this every year and it is starting to weat thin. Dont have breaks when sailing - go out and do a few hours at a time.

I do it for the fun of it and IMO not stressing at the start and just waiting for a gap before launching rather than piling in with all the other lemmings actually works well (for me). Shouting GO GO GO to try and get everyone else to pile up also helps.

A few points from my experience:

dont build a pergola the day before - a lot of up and down a ladder doesnt help your endurance.

do replace all breakable bits - ropes especially - my first LL (last century) I broke EVERY rope on the rig. It was the year they had a triathlon - sail to lance, run back to ledge and then bike back to lancelin. I was in a team entry and the other two thought I had drowned I took so long to get to the finish

one fall makes more difference than a lot of fast sailing so practice jybes - and big carvy ones around the marks might take a bit longer but you avoid a lot of wind shadow and people in the water problems that way

they have free beer on the beach (in the 4WD's that pick you up) so dont be worried to give up if you get thirsty. The times I have been picked up in a boat they weren't so generous and in fact I seem to remember them getting beer from other boats as all theirs was gone (and that was just for the crew)
