If you haven't been to the comp site before, finding the launch site is a little tricky. In NE its at the end of Hearns Creek Road. There is limited parking and a popular fishing spot.
In SE winds you need to turn left off High st (I think) just before the beach carpark and head along the bitumen road towards the water treatment plant. The road becomes sand but quite ok for 2WD as it winds towards the beach.
If you are still lost just come to the Diggers Rest motel next to the RSL and find the cars with boards on top.
For surfing there is a little left hand break under the light house but its tricky. Get ready for some sucky lefts - but its good. 5 mins south is Emerald beach which picks up lots of swell.
Good News conditions are absolutrly firing up here, it's already blowing NE about 25knts and it's only midday. Waves were a little bit ordinary yesterday but otherwise some really good sailing was had by all. So for anyone who is still thinking about comming up just jump in your car and get here before it's alll over.
Yeah it was pretty nice at Flat Top today, probably 10-15 sailors getting some 15-20knot northerly conditions and about waist height waves (from the face)
I kept upwind of the wave section and had a blast/swim, whilst the actual wavesailors looked like they were having a good time, with some good flowing turns witnessed and some jumping happening (in the short time I watched)
I'll have to grab a camera and take some shots tomorrow
All the heats and finals were concluded today, with some good wave rides and the likes of one-handed forwards, wave 360, backy, one footed jumps were seen in the small swell which occassionally popped up enough for some 'ooh-ing and ahh-ing' from the crowd
Yeah the comp started about 12 with the kids, then ams, masters and pros consecutively heading out for their 25 or so minute expression sessions, the wind gradually built from maybe 15 to 25knot over that period
But the wind eased and went a bit on and off during the later man-on-man heats/finals, with a fair bit of slogging to be had, only planning out the back in the much wanted gusts
Nice to see some sails around the local and meet a few local and unlocal sailors Plenty of fancy new kit around from all brands, including twinfins and flash sails (stuff I only get to see in mags)
Looking forward to summer, and sailing this spot a heap (or at least trying my best to!)

Weekend was good fun. Plenty of sun, wind and sailing. Looking foward to a good southerly tomorow as well. Going back to man on man format in the finals worked out well, showing that any sailor, no matter how mediocore ( krusty) can take a victory within the 12min heat. The season has already become interesting, and looking foward to some redemption at gerroa. Heads up krusty[}:)]

I had a top time and the chance to have a go at the JP twinzer allowed me to really see what they can potentially do on a wave. On the Friday I was planning straight from the beach into some great steep ramps with the 76litre JP twin and the 4.8 NP Fly in about 18knots!

Gotta chuckle every time I think of that sign. I think I saw 2 cars of locals down there the whole weekend, that is of course excluding the local that stumbled out of the bush on saturday morning all cut up and bleeding only to end up floating face down in the creek and being rescued by 2 of our juniors who then preceeded to resuscitate him and call and ambulance. I see where they're coming from though.....damn tourists

hey tim, with all the attention being on the boards I forgot to ask you how you like the fly. good fun being on a 4.8 when everyone else is on 5.4s eh I see levi seems to be using them as well this year.
I really liked the Fly. With a skinny mast it makes an amazingly light rig. On first look the sail has a very clean appearance but still with reinforcement in the right places. I thought my Servernes were light to handle but I did notice a difference straight away. The wind was about 18-20 knots and the 4.8 Fly was still powerful enough to plane away from the beach - normally I would be on my 5.3 S1 and not change down to a 4.7 until the wind was 25-30knots. As the wind dropped to 15kts the 4.8 was still planning. The sail was noticeably more powerful than my S1 with a lot of pumpability to get on the plane. I have tried Ezzy's & Goya's before which are also powerful sails but I really hated the feeling of being pulled over the handle bars when bottom turning. The fly seemed to depower quite nicely in the bottom turn which I liked. Thanks for the chance to try the gear - it has changed my opinon about NP's (I will put these comments on the review forum)
