yeah, how was it... was planning of going up there but my plans were destroyed when I got told last minute that I have to move out of my apartment in a couple of weeks... spend the weekend house hunting instead... ![]()
i can tell you how it was.... CRAP... i sat there for about two hours on sat hoping to see some good windsurfing... A gust would come and about 10 of you would charge out and get right to the impact zone.. then the gust would die and 10 of you would get smashed..
the few that did make it out the back did well.. although i am a kiter i used to windsurf and i can appreciate what you do.. there was one guy on a green board and sail?? he was out the back right as the wind dropped on Saturday.. he wins all prizes.. awsome.. untill he crashed on a massive floater and the copped about 50 waves on the head.. saw a nice shark there on sunday too.. beware of the brown water..
i had to drive up after work, went over stockton bridge, no white caps which isn't a good sign, so saved the rest of the day and turned around and went home, herd it was windy in the morning and the surf was big as expected, but in true westerly fashion it was gusty and died early arfternoon, it's a shame, it was reading 20 to 30 all morning from Nobby's signal station which is always a good sign for more wind up that way..
seems like it turned out to be the same as last year or was it the year before that... seriously the organisor should consider changing the date ;-(![]()
The wind wasnt light at all but it was getting that way when the comp started, it was just that the waves were crankn and westerlys are gusty is what made it hard. I got out a 11am with 5.0 and 69L board but I should have got there a few hours before to get the most out of it
I got wet so I was happy.![]()
All in all if we had our time again I think we should have kicked off earlier as ma pointed out. But hindsight is a good thing.
When I went out around midday I was fully powered on a 5.2 sail, had a few jumps and a wave or two. As our friendly kiter said it went downhill quickly and those who made it out the back and stayed out the back were on a winner. Very surprised he only saw one noah as this place is a breeding ground for whites.
A big thanks to all that ran the show, BBQ, beer, prizes and a sail.
I know how hard it is to run these comps so again thanks.
Cheers
That was not me on that peter lynn,, i was in the silver hilux just parked south of your cars.. and i came down specifically to watch you guys.. i was not having a dig at windsurfers i love what you guys do and i tried for years to get the hang of it but struggled. I also was sympathizing with you guys and i think you did damn well considering the conditions.. we have had months of those die in the ass conditions here and i have been caught out a few times swimming my gear back.. so when its cross off like that i dont go out.. so sorry mr plod if you took me the wrong way.. i would have been stoked if it was 35 knts and good waves then i would have got to see what i came to see..![]()
