Inverloch Windsurfing Club is putting on a Come and Try Day at the Anderson Inlet Angling Club on Sunday 25th April for further information please check out the Events section on Seabreeze or go to www.driftmedia.com.au/iwc/Welcome.html
The day is being supported by Windsurfing Victoria who are providing a coach - Josh Flipp and putting on a free BBQ and SHQ who are providing a van full of beiginners kit, young guns gear and demo gear.
Come and join us for a heap of fun on the day
SHQ will send down a Young Guns kit if we get the interest. I have one other kid registered so I think it will be a goer. So please register your son via www.driftmedia.com.au/iwc/Welcome.html. The rest of the family, I would not register but if they want to have a go on the day that will be ok if there is equipment spare.
forecast looking promising.... will be at Inverloch for long weekend. Hope to meet a few crew and if anyone keen for a wave session on the westerly ill be there or Ill drop down to Waratah Bay.
The forcast is not looking for beginners here,s hopping that changes. Lets call it a speed comp to make sure we get 10kts ![]()
Damn you guys are good.
I kept on getting THOSE emails that somehow knew the length of my (ahem) and how I was not fullfilling my wife's desires so I thought the best thing to do was get some practise, you know put your name and telephone no. out there and give it a go. I became TOO popular so I had to do something. So I took up windsurfing as a disguise to try and get rid of my sordid past. You know, a nice clean sport, with repectible people that do not out there mates, with people that support each other.
The other thing is once you are in your wetsuit there is no chance of anything else happening![]()
Alas, I have been found out.
I agree EJ..I keep saying to Old Salty that its OK to love windsurfing, just not to love windsurfing..if you know what I mean
hows inverloch in the westerlies? Obviosuly SW works best. Does it get too much land protection for consistent wave and inlet sailing on the strong days. Is it better to drive to Sandy? Think ive only sailed inverloch on Easterlies and SW'ly.
Hmmmm just registered by mail on the registration page.... went back to have a look at the site and it was all weird, hope my mail didnt crash the IWC site![]()

A big thank you to Doug and all the volunteers who made the day a great event. Fantastic to see so many windsurfers in one place - especially as our fellow kite surfers were well and truly out numbered!
Thanks for the comments but this event would not have happened without lots of help. Firstly to our coach for the day - Josh Flipp did a great job of getting the beginners on the water. Mick, Phillip, Craig, Simon, Steve, Marcus, Belinda and Glen all did a great job of making the day run smoothly. Well done.
Inverloch just turned it on with 10 - 15 kts and not a drop of rain. I counted 40 rigs on and off the water so we had at least 40 windsurfers on the day. Morning got underway with Josh taking about 8 beginners through the ropes and Craig, Steve and Simon taking the intermediates through the ropes of rigging, beach and water starting and getting in the straps/harness. There was heaps of questions being asked and lots of friendly tips being given. Belinda and Glen got the BBQ happening for lunch and fed a cast of thousands. The afternoon saw the wind increase a little but not too much for the beginners. A few of the Southerly Busters and the PIT crew where out putting a few speed runs on their GPS and I think we have a new member in training for the Southerly Busters - Belinda the Speed Queen was ripping it up the speed run as she discovered the joys of committing to the harness and sailing down wind. The longboards came out for a run and it was great to see Katelin surfing on the front of her Dad's board. In the end we had to prise the longboard off Rick, Matt and Craig so I could get it home.
Notable mentions.
Craig for the lay down gybe on the longboard just looked something else
Matt wanting to go one step more did a duck gybe in front of the beach to a bronx cheer from the onlookers.
Marcus for all his help despite a broken shoulder
Simon for bringing a trailer full of BBQ's, bins and megafone etc to make the day run smoothly
Steve for getting a student water starting first go
Phil for billeting out the coaching staff
Windsurfing Victoria for sponsoring the coach and meat for the bbq
SHQ for providing a van stacked to the gunnels with boards and sails.
We even got Jodi from behind the camera and on a board along with Frank who I think is now officially hooked.
We also had a visit from our Forum legend Flipper 4444444444.
Now as Mick could not attend through some lame excuse that he had a wedding to go to if he asks how it went just let him know that there was no wind, it rained all day and only2 people turned up.![]()
Big thanks for everyone turning up and making the day a HUGE success.
Now all we need to do is plan our next day. ![]()
I got some photos and vid which I will post tomorrow. Well done Doug good to see so many on the water. Very encouraging for the sport. Thanks Josh. Think got my old man hooked again after a few years off the water.
Looks like it was a great day. Sorry I couldn't make it - had to to to Mt Buller for a working bee. Hopefully I'll be at the next event - which is... ..?
Time for another expedition out west maybe to shake up the Connewarre crew??
Hey H2o I was just going to PM you to see how your Dad went. Glad to hear he is back in the saddle again![]()
Thanks Doug and to all you volunteers!
It was my first time down that way, and am sure it won't be my last - great spot, great people, and great wind! Can't wait to get down there again soon.
Thanks again Simon for the water start tips - was pretty happy to nail two on the day.
A great windsurfing day! ![]()
