Day 1 results

That was good fun and hard work. Well done Kaleb for a convincing win and well done to Kazza for moving up the rankings from Day 1 to day 2. Great also to see a few new faces to the GPS TC!!

Kaleb, thanks for organising the comp, much appreciated.

Really enjoyed my first event and thanks Dave for lending me a GPS - I now have one on order. Thanks Caleb for organising the event, and a really big thanks for pulling my Mickey Mouse 4 wheel drive out of the bog hole. Shouldn't 'really blame the car, might have been the driver!

Well done guys on the comp - big pat on the back for taking the initiative. Been following this thread with interest. I reckon the GPS5 ranking is a great indicator and maybe we should look at somehow including the ranking on the team challenge. Maybe there's a national comp each month to see who can get the best GPS5 score. What are your thoughts?

Sausage, thanks for the support. We were discussing this yesterday and thought the GPS5 could be run alongside (directly) the GPSTC, with the GPS5 based on an individuals performance. It could look something like this:



Perhaps only the top 'n' ranked sailors are included on the front page, with 'n' equalling the numbers of teams that have posted a score (so the two results columns align with each other) and then the whole list could be available via a pull-down menu. Each day you'd see the rankings change as different sailors post, just as it does with the teams, and then the winner could be mentioned at the end of the month, same as it is for the teams. No doubt plenty of other pull-down menus to explore the results and see scores within a team, etc.

We saw this as a good way to get some extra competition happening and to help boost the GPSTC results and it has certainly done this!

Last thing we want is to disrupt in anyway the Teams Challenge concept that this whole format was set-up to promote, but the GPS5 format just presents existing data in a slightly different way (so it doesn't really change anything) and could no doubt provide historical results (ie results should be available from day 1 of the GPSTC, not just from the day it was set up, if it is).

we introduced this format at windfest this year and called it the rashie divisions.

it turned out to be very popular with everyone and seemed to be the crown the top guys were vying for. it does reward the slalom sailors in the field because they are the ones most likely to be good across disciplines.

at windfest I felt it needed a discard to work best. it is a division that is designed to reward those that are most consistent but really disadvantages someone if they can't sail on a particular day.

I guess over the period of a month this would not be as important as the time frame would help level the field.

there are some other tweaks we're looking at for burrum like the idea that the "pack" get an averaged score. this is also a way to help those that miss a day for whatever reason or those that may assist someone else to get a big score and miss out themselves. same as the tour de france.

Be good to somehow get the lower ranks up there and in it as well. The big guns sure deserve to be up high on the charts, they are talented and hard working. I think the lower ranks need encouragement too though, somehow make everyone feel they can really get involved without jeopardizing the desires of the big guns, if that makes sense. Sorry just have a habit of thinking of everyone.
