queens was ok at times today, wasn't on preferred board n sail but i now take all my gear so i can get wet, was over powered, underpowered, stalled and just right at times on 120lt and 6.0 a lot of sthly in it and as flat as ive seen it for some time, still got to have a good sail.![]()
and lee did yr van make it home![]()
Yeah just, that vans gotta go as it happens all the time. Sailed Redcliffe from 11am, swell just got bigger and bigger. Seriously got to think about getting a smaller board as i was getting thrown around to much. Great days sailing though, looking forward to moving to the area later this year. Good to see you out on the water Lungs, nice duck jibes
Lungs, I found over 7 years experimenting the 120 at Redcliffe is a bit big. I and DR Gas use the Kode 112 for light wind. It seems to be the only board that feels like a fun bump and jump/wave without that huge volume feeling freerides get. I recently tested a free ride 120 in 13kts ( new board for my son ) and the Kode is way better n the swell generated at Queens.
You should have been on smaller for sure. I rode the JP 101 FSW for the whole session at 90kgs. My last run about 3:30 I should have been on 83 ltr.
It would have been hard for you with 6.0m and 120 ltr ( hard combo ).
Perfect Queens set up is:-
Kode 112 and 7.4 Excess ( 10-15 kts)
JP FSW 101 and 6.4 Excess ( 15-22Kts)
JP Wave 83 and 5.4 Alpha ( 20-25kts)
JP Wave 83 and 4.7 Zone ( 25 kts above)
No cams in that swell.
thanks for the info ULF, when i got there the wind was dropping, then it kicked in , then it dropped, had my last run around 4-430, then it dropped again. still on old gear have some old glass wave/bumpnjump for the 25kts+ but only get on them when i'm sure the wind is going to remain constantly above 25.
when the bank account and the finance manager are receptive i'll go shopping, seems to be plenty of options these days as opposed to many years ago.
cheers and thanks again
Hey Derek,
I gotta say that when it comes to 7m sails I now like to have at least a couple of cams to stabilise the top end. I have a Loft Switchblade 6.8m which just keeps going faster as the wind heads North of 20 knots. My Maui 7m feels unwieldy when the wind kicks in and I have to change down. Don't dismiss the modern cammed sail at Redcliffe just cause it's choppy. I otherwise agree with Bill, the Kode 112 is the ideal "big board" in our typical messy conditions.
Thanks Andrew,
but am amazed that you even know what a large sail looks and feels like after your recent trip to maui![]()
if this was the70's we could have a slide night, but a few more pics posted here would be good to drool over if you had time to take them.
cheers n see you at the best beach on the north side next time there is wind![]()
