$500.00 seems like an incredibly light fine given the potentially life threatening nature of the incident. I think Mr Gohr's smug look of relief in his photo tells it all.

Also it just amazes me you could crash into a windsurfer. How do you not see it???

Serious problem indeed! I've noticed when sailing at gold coast they don't seem to consider the crafts around them.... obviously an experience issue....

question is, can we do anything about it?

Seems that is just for criminal charges. If Linda/'s family pursue civil they will get some just compensation. Interesting for any potential customers of jetski place that they are going to leave you in the s*** if all goes bad- they seem to have wiped their hands of any responsibility.

Might be a bit cynical but the way it reads nothing will come out of this, just alot of departments blowing smoke.

True Ken, I bypass the train, looking at how many boats are parked there, water traffic etc, just looks too busy, a very changed environment thats for sure. Shame. Miss the ripple blast along the bank in a southerly.

I just find it a bit cramped, with short runs. I prefer the fat chick on a southerly, and the hot chick on a northerly. Actually, the fat chick is growing on me a bit. I've had some good sessions there this year. Just not on a weekend.

By not going it just allows the others to move in, keep going to the train and be vocal, if i ran everytime i didnt like something i would be running all my life.

No, you can't. It's an experience thing.
Everyone who gets on something like that for the first time will have their senses so over-loaded, all they will stare at is the front of the craft. Happens with everything, even us. How many times do people here post about making silly mistakes while gybing ? Same reason. Sensory overload, too much to think about, can only concentrate on one thing at a time.
It's a dumb place to run jet-ski hire for that reason, because unless you run a coach next to the novice, and force them to start slow until they get used to stuff, it's gonna happen every time.
The Train gets a big pass from me for that reason among others.

Ultimately its th' Gold Coast Council who sh'd bar th' liability fo' allerin' sech a business t'operate in th' Broadwater. They is colleckin' th' licence fees, an' sh'd be payin' fo' enny damages t'other water users. Clearly allerin' a Jet Ski Hire business t'operate, in sech a busy waterway is madness, it completely disregards th' safety of other water users. Move it somewhar safer.

Last time I sailed there was great. Got the car park under the tree, got lots of strange looks from the "MAFF" I was the only one there.
Its a BIG circle of crime underground all about pleasing the customer, getting smashed, high power water craft etc, red light. Welcome to the gold coast! Thanks for coming!

Another piece of craft we shouldn't forget is the JETBOATS. I have seen them go very close to fellow windsurfers.

....and that f@#k%^g duck (although it almost ran straight over me on the road in Surfers P!!), lucky it's slow in the water, haha.

I don't think that we should be dishartened by sailing at the train at all. At the end of the day, we have just as much right to be there as jetskis, boats, water skis, park people etc.

p.s. Hope Linda is recovering quickly and wish her a speedy recovery

Did i hear the guy who ran the swan over got a $10k fine(news last night) this guy got $500, ok i know there is a diffrence but........................

Under the changes, legal speeds will be cut by 10 knots to 30 knots and group tours would only be able to travel at 10 knots

... is that a blanket speed limit, for all craft? Perhaps bad form but a fine for exceeding 30 knots on a sail craft is perhaps something you'd frame.

10 knots for groups I think is a bit much if they are out in the main channels. They'll get run down doing 10 knots in the main channels.

I went past The Train in that Super Duck bus/boat thing on Sunday (yes really) and it looked like the local jet-ski hire operator there had the course set across most of the channel (not the main channel). If it were a NE we'd have to sail through the hire jet-skis, as would all other craft. There is so much unused room further south, and probably more advertising because of all the tourists there. I don't get it.

Also like to add that a lot of jet-ski riders are actually very responsible. Seems to be mostly the guys that go out into the surf at Stradbroke though. edit: that said i can only vouch for them on the broadwater, they stand-out as they are stand-ups.
