wind was light early but built late in the day to 15-20 knots ESE.
the freestyle guys were in fantastic form with a couple of the new guys busting out some big moves.
the comp was an expression session format. everyone out on the water at once enjoying the conditions.
after an hour of intense battles, with at one point the ukranian brothers going 1 on 1 within 50m of the beach one sailor above all rose to the top.
today by far the best out of everyone was Da Vecta. with a unanimous decision from the judges.
da vecta's display of light wind tricks early on just kept getting better as the wind built. he scored top points with his outstanding execution of tripple flaka's, toad spocks and clew first chees rolls.
next on podium was haircut, making the most of the boat wakes haircut produced some memorable table top forwards and shaka's
not to be left out notwal and simon were also showing that they had stepped up to compete with the other guys.
both unleashed a tireless display of vulcans and upwind 360's. notwal just edged ahead in the last 5 minutes of the session by following haircut into the boat wakes allowing him to pull an impessive flat water pushloop. not to be outdone, simon picked up a smaller wake and landed a one handed superman.
at the end of the session the places stood with
1. Da Vecta
2. Haircut
3. Notwal
4. Simon
with the final flag being hoisted on the freestyle comp it was tjime for part 2 or preceedings.
the party,
this year the bbq party included some live music. the addition of music to the event really added an extra level. we all laughed, ate and boasted of the session
while being serenaded by the blues brothers busting out some cool jazz.
was a great day and lots of fun.

Unfortunately the judges didn't see my underwater flaka. Anyway, the Blues Brothers gig was massive! Don't tell anyone that I danced naked with ep on the barbie. Man, we were so drunk and had so much fun! Actually, you missed out the best part, where hc were riding this super-massive white shark. Damn, that was scary.
Looking forward to the WindWanderers meeting. And thanks for organising Gestalt!

even though the wind was light you guys still pulled some impressive moves.
once i get the photos sorted i'll write a real review of the day.
the guys with the guitars added lots of ambience to the bbq. that was a bonus.
it was great to see sabien win the lucky draw also. very deserving i agree.
also i should mention the guys at surf FX. they are in it for the long haul. we have tried numerous times to hold the event.
we had to cancel the kirra meet due to club red tape,
then had 2 cracks at the downwinder
and finally got to do a freestyle meet.

i think we will hold another freestyle meet in the future. there are a lot of guys doing stuff now. while we were derigging notwal was practicing his rig throws. he had the sail flying around the board
