I like to judge a sea breeze by the wind when I wake up.
5-10 knots N-NW. I hold some hope for this afternoon.
CLASSIC MORNING FOR AFTERNOON SEA BREEZE, A LITTLE BIT OF DEW ON THE GRASS ALSO. HAD A CLOSE SHAVE WITH THE JET SKI SCHOOL LAST WEEK(SOUTH OF SANDBAR ON THE NE RUN OPPOSITE SEA WORLD CAR PARK) DROVE STRAIGHT AT ME HAD TO BAIL NO ROOM TO TURN, SHE JUST KEPT GOING STRAIGHT , NO EFFORT TO AVOID, I DON'T THINK IT WAS MALICIOUS JUST INEXPERIENCE AND LACK OF KNOWLEDGE, NOW WE HAVE THE HOVERCRAFT'S ALSO, SOONER OR LATER THERE WILL BE AN ACCIDENT OUT THERE JUST A QUESTION OF WHEN AND WHAT WITH AND HOW SERIOUS. WITHOUT BEING A WINDGER PLEASE REPORT ALL INCIDENTS TO THE MARINE TRANSPORT DEP
you could be right the panda,
the best seabreezes start early with NW winds and then strengthen as the day goes on and swing NE.
Seabreezes that start when the winds start from the south end up being weaker.
the other thing is with really strong NW winds they can kill a seabreeze.
i don't know whether we will ge a seabreeze today or if it's just system based.
fingers crossed.
hey how is the train in a northerly? i htink i have a site visit on the goldy tomorrow.
Just loaded teh van, good for either waves at Currunbim, or slalom at teh Train.
Currumbin is closer, but I'm kinda keen to do some slalom. High tide at present, is a run-out from full a good tide at teh Train ?
^ Yep. Gets better as the banks become exposed.
Sonic: The broadwater is chock full of idiots. I give way to everybody now, but it still doesn't help all the time.
Twice recently I've pointed upwind to slow down to let a boat cross my path, even though I have right-of-way. They've then proceeded to set a collision course with me, so I have to point even higher. Eventually pointed so high I was almost at a standstill and they then pass about 1cm in front of my nose. They wave as they pass. I don't think they have any idea.
One boat was a fishing charter, the other the parasail boat. You think they'd know better.
I've even come close with a police boat (for f's sake). Not too bad, I was slogging and they were doing 4 knots. At least they turned around and apologised. We were the only two moving vessels within site.
But how, how do you miss a brightly coloured windsurf sail? Is monofilm dangerous?
Looks sailable now! (for my 7m). Not sure what to take. Also if Train carpark is full I've been launching from the boat ramp next to the pool (the next street south, 50m). Less room to righ, no tap, but the grass is much greener. Makes a good down-wind run home too.
Welllllo yes please.
I didnt have time to squeeze a sail in 2day, there isnt enough hours in the day ):
I intend to stay at wello until the wind dies, gonna bring the glowsticks aswell :D
Swoosh, I know what you mean about a lack of etiquette at the Train. I'm used to sailing where starboard has right of way and lead board is clear to gybe - here it's a free for all.
That aside, today was the first day I "got" the Train. I've sailed it a couple of times mainly in a SE and it was dodgy. Today I had a solid hour and half of flat water and very little boat traffic. Even the jetskiers kept their distance. Even drove straight into a carpark.
Think Wello is the go tomorrow. I need to work on my NM and distance.
Hi swoosh - i couldnt get a park right at kfc and had to park a bit further up at the end of the rocks. i saw you zipping back and forth. Thanks for the go on your board ![]()
agree, i think kfc at mid tide is beaute
Ken Ho and Sharon, were you there today? I must be sailing with my eyes closed
no worries. i'm surprised you could get your feet in the straps, i was adjusting the straps before you jumped on, and when i tried to sail it after you i could barely get my feet in.
ken was the guy i was talking to when you were borrowing my board.
I think I was lucky to get a park where I did considering I arrived fairly late as well. Some big accident on the highway and the bigdayout traffic kinda sucked. I suppose getting to the train and getting a park is the toughest thing.
and it will have to be wello for me i think, have to work
Mate I had a word to that guy, He said he thought you were gay and was trying
to kiss you on the cheek while going past.![]()
Yeah, I was there. I first went to Shearwater and was freaked out by the amount of traffic, then checked out Jennifer Ave and same thing so headed to the Train and got on the water about 3.30 for just over an hour until it became a bit light for the 6.7. I sailed the NP RSS with the Fanatic sticker and numbers. It was fun and great practice for Burrum as I'm not used to sailing in current.
I think most of the slalom guys there are pretty skillful and safe however there is no need to get too close, i wouldn't paint us all with the same brush we can respect your skill(even if it does "look" a bit chaotic) but lets not start a bitching session, a quiet word at the time was sure to get the point across. Should be a good afternoon see you all out there, kites, windsurfers, rubber ducks, kayaks, jet skis, hovercraft, sea planes, fishermen, jet boats, catamaran, swimmers, dogs, topless women on BBQ boats,12 knots Neil, did i forget anything?
i love blasting close to my mates whether in the water or not. also enjoy a good head on approach.
stick my hands out, give a hoot! always a big grin.
mind you i don't do it to people i don't know as they get the ****s. ![]()
sooo...it's forecast to go NE again in the arvo
won't it be high tide-ish at currumbin, maybe that's a better option?
Surf anywhere would be good. Narrowneck?
Post where you reckon, I'll see you there. Check back in later.
(C'mon wind, damn you.)
how bizzare,
looking at the graphs it's not that windy, wife is at cleveland and says the same.
but here at home south of VP it's blowing!!!!!!! 15-20 knots westerly.
^ wello for me, looks like the NE is starting to creep in.
will try and get some water so leaving soonish.
