Redcliffe gets my vote, reliable wind, clean water, rideable in all tides and actually a very nice place to live and work. The lack of waves is compensated for by its' close proximity to the Sunshine Coast. I think it is a bit of a forgotten gem myself.
( PS. I live in North Brisbane and have worked and windsurfed in Redcliffe for 25 years).

Seems Redcliffe is getting the thumbs up from everyone, i never been sailing there.

Have been sailing at Mackay at Seaforth Beach and was Great!!!

But far as i go, anywhere is better than Rockhampton - its crapp to live and sail!!!

Will be venturing to Emerald in a few weeks to go freshwater Sailing at Lake Fairburn - meant to be bigger than Sydney Harbour!!!

Sorry Sausage, i will be leaving the Central Region when i can!!!!!!

Personally I like the Sunshine Coast the most. Great ocean sailing at Mooloolaba in clear blue water, good waves at Neil & Anne streets Caloundra plus flat water at Golden beach and the lake. The coastal lifestyle beats the city any day.

Luke,
How have you been? Nice photos of my really flat speed strip- who's that good looking guy in the middle of that last photo and has your Dad forgiven you yet for creasing his brand new JP?

Good to hear there is at least one other person who likes sailing at Yeppoon.

Give us a bell if you're ever up this way again, rather than just running into you on the water. Hopefully catch up with you at Burrum next year as well.

Seems like everyone has their own ideas i do agree with Redcliffe having more wind but personally i believe not a nice place to live and not much work. Manly and Wello both good also but a bit of a drive unless you live local and then you need money..........like Vando.
Obviously i pick the Gold Coast except in Westerly(but it is possible) the down side is the Broad Water gets very busy especially in the school holidays, parking and roads are getting congested also.I hear what people are saying about the dirty water but mate last week i was sailing with dolphins and the water was crystal especially high tide, anyway theres always the ocean, most of the time you can live on the Goldie and be 15 mins from your favorite spot, anyway we are full go to Noosa!

Actually you will be surprised at Redcliffe, its becoming a lot nicer place to live. I live a block from the water and could'nt be happier. The new bridge will be completed by mid 2010 and maybe the rail line MIGHT come one day. There are some big plans for new shopping centres too, and real estate prices are starting to snow ball. There are some really nice restarurants now and new pubs too. I bus to the city every day and although the trip is a bit long, you can read an make use of your time.

When it comes to sailing, although everyone goes to Queens now, Margate/Scotts Point used to be the Mecca, I have seen some epic days there and sailors getting absolutely huge air. This spot can deilver epic conditions. Suttons is great to in a strong SSE....... has my vote

Hey Sausage it was an unreal that trip will be doing it again next year exact same time. And no dad has quite forgiven me last week added to the breaking dads gear list this summer so far
1 brand new board
1 mast
and now one boom
just shows how good this season has been so far windsurfing on average 5 times a week.

Bowen has got it all. It has front beach were it blows hard from the SE in the morning and it is waist deep with chop at one end, little set types waves in the middle and flatish water at the other end all in the one bay. (dont ask me how but i dont lie). Then when the wind swings around to the east you have two more bays to choose from and then there is The Don river mouth were it is flat water behind a sand bank on the right tide.
OH and the the nickname for Bowen is "BLOWIN"....... yes because it is always blowin' in Bowen.
The water is as blue as the sky...... nice.

No Chicks though

Hey, I married a Bowen Chick

By front beach, do you mean the one running south-westish from the jetty round to where the highway comes in to the south of town?

I've sometime thought of taking my gear to Bowen but the croc warning signs at Kings Beach have put me off

Yes thats the one.
what croc signs?? I go to bowen to escape croc signs in Townsville, as they have recently put one up at the beach access where i sail. I sailed at kings beach a few weeks ago but i went in at the quarry end (south). I sail with the locals there and they have never said anything about crocs so i guess i am safe ... right?
There are mangroves up the end away from the Jetty at front beach so there might be snappy handbags in there

Well I did'nt see any crocs yesterday arvo when I was blasting down there in 20knts SE with a full tide and crystal clear water a 5.30pm. All by my lonesome, and loving it.. Actually I havnt seen any crocs in sailing these waters in 20 years, A few sharts and stingers but they don't bother me and I don't bother them.

Im a friggin idiot, so I go out just after this post and get stung by some sort of jelly. At least I didn't get eaten by a shart as well. Guess its a reminder its the time off the year to bring the long johns out of the closet.

Just a minor irritation around the ankle really, but I'll take it as reminder stinger season has started.
