And me too. 4.7m was fully lit on the outside for a good hour.

Launched just south of Cadets. Sailed around the old lighthouse, then down south to the _new_ tree line.

Adjusted the map view to 3D'ish so that you can see back toward the gap - you can see that I had to sail around a newly formed bar.

These maps needs serious updating! Doesn't show anything of what it's like

I wonder if it's possible to overlay GPS tracks on the Copernicus Browser?

Word on the street is the bulcock bar will be reopened too.. wtf .. I've had some excellent surfs there. Having the extra beach has been fantastic.

This won't happen in the short term. There isn't an actual time frame either.... let's see if the government wants to keep spending money or stops at the temporary fix.

Robbo, i cant see there being anywhere near enough sand in the passage to rebuild the island, proper.
Better off making a dyke n pumping system around the low lying affected suburbs...

New reports are out for bribie bar.

as an overview this is the plan

reopen Caloundra bar and build sandbag groynes
Close off all existing break through areas towards south
build sandbag retaining along closed off areas
increase height of newly formed dunes heading south to 5m ahd (1.5 storeys)
plant trees to new dunes (+ another 1.5 storeys)
kill any chance of wind in a SE - tick

It has been good sailing with the Bribie Bar - inside on the flat water the wind is stronger and less gusty, and outside in the waves it is quite safe being shallow and good jumping.

I think the discussion of closing/opening the various bars, hasn't been thought through all that well.

When the bar was open at Happy Valley / Bulcock, it was pretty much off-limits to most boats as the sand moved around too much. It wasn't traversable except at the highest tides.

The speed of flow of water, was very high. I suspect the emergency-rescue folks have forgotten how often people were swept out. My partner even had a jetski rescue due to being stuck in the washing machine while sailing on some big kit.

It seems to me that the now-closed opening, would have been a good spot to have a permanent deep-water opening. It could have had proper sea-walls so that water traffic could then safely traverse (as safe as would be any bar crossing vs what we had at Bulcock). Obviously the low lying estate would still need wave-protection too.

my $0.02 ... I think the civil-works was a good achievement, the local community will have good storm protection. However, too many politicians got involved to encourage short term political-wins... vs making good long term decisions.

Went out there on Wednesday. Gusty but fun. Bit hard to judge water depth close to the sandbank, didnt want to stop either as tide was running out still and the noteable number of wildlife under the surface. 37 cm fin. Did around 42 km session.probably around 1.2 + km runs . GB low tide was crapp as usual except watching wing dings trying to sail over 40 cm water with foils.

Pic isnt exact to the actual course i was sailing.

Nice track, thanks for update. If wanting to all that eastern channel would it be ok to launch from near the boat club.
I really hope the dredging in the main channel helps the sailing.

The main issue at the moment, is the exclusion zone around the dredging. Otherwise, yes you can.

Or just go 200m north to Murray's Beach so that you are half-way between the Boat club and Cadets:

Nice grass to rig on, but you there is a bit of a walk to the water and through a bit of mud:

Careful through the mud etc around there- 3 stonefish found there by some of locals. I know they are around the jetty and ramps but that is probably not there usual area to be found in. Found a small one two days ago in front of the rocks near the hire place
