Forecast again looks good for this Friday's Windsurfer LT (and OneDesign) racing at RPAYC.
Racing starts approx 17:30
Previous racing Friday 28 Feb was held in similar wind South 10 to 15kt. 4 races closely contested between Cam, Scotty & I , with Nick scoring 4 x 4th. Jeff secured the heavy division. Looking forward to another tight and fun contest tomorrow & washed down by some suitable evening refreshment. We need a couple of Shimelds to join the contest and hopefully Dan Wilson, Johno Tuite etc
Had another RB practice late Sunday again in light winds South 5 to 10 and maybe gusting to 12kt from up past RMYC down to past Stokes Pt and return. Very enjoyable with my light weight and the Barracouta 9.5m2. Hoping that I might be advantaged by similar conditions for our last NSW series event at DAC!

Yes Jethro, Steve S (Yellow sail/#106) was definitely 2nd with I think DNS,1,1,2 ; to Cam's 1,2,2,1
I was always in the mix 2,3,3,DSQ(3) but not quite able to get to /or stay at the front when it really counts at the last top mark, and down at the finish. But it was certainly good enjoyable racing. We were missing Scotty & Dan Wilson, and Jono Tuite was training on the Bic. Hopefully they'll be there for the last twilight 27 March
Steve S and I then went for a really good bash upwind in the freshening 12 to 17kt approx NEast to Longnose Point, starting from well south of Scotland Is. Really good fun both up & down wind, with Steve S generally faster upwind, and I had the weight advantage downwind.
We made it back about 30 mins before sunset.
Got to get myself a board for the Sunday Windsurfer LT event at Hunters Hill SC.

RPAYC has now shut down it's sailing season with all events cancelled.

Stay tuned to see if I can get more info on winter windsurfing...

Some Pittwater LT's had a good session yesterday arvo in a flicking light SE - SW breeze. 4 guys out doing some individual exercising and just happened to end up on the same piece of water.

We ran maybe half a dozen 1 lap W/L races between two permanent marks. 1st race was a rabbit start and for the others we used a handicap start to try and get everyone to the top mark at about the same time. It actually worked pretty well for an ad-hoc setup.

I also got some good technique tips from Scotty who thought I was too oversheeted and trying to point too high for the conditions. Sometimes it's good to just have someone follow you and tell you what they see, rather than trying to figure out what's going on from on the board.

Anyway, it was a good arvo and we'll try and do it again soon...

Sorry I couldn't join in with you on Sunday. Sailed LARA up to where you were um 'exercising' but you were just heading back into RPA. I'm looking at this Thursday's forecast with the NNW and considering a bit of exercise from the Salt Pan Point beacon, across Broken Bay towards Umina beach, and of course return.
Depending on the actual wind strength on the day I'll probably go with the 8.5 on the RB.
Perhaps a few LT's might like to exercise a shorter course - say to Barrenjoey & return, or around the Lion & return?

I'll be in that Steve. I don't want to miss out on Box Head though. Southerly swell - could be good.

RB + 9.5 departed Salt Pan 13:15 and met up with Windsurfer LT106 vicinity of Morning Bay. Arrived vicinity Umina Beach at 14:55
Steve S headed straight for the waves running into the Brisbane Water channel driven by the southerly swell and demonstrated the wave riding ability of the LT. I kept the fragile RB safely clear of any breaking swells reaching up & down the beach. With the breeze rapidly fading we departed at 15:25 and were pleased to drift home before sunset at approx 17:15. Plenty of healthy exercise.

Sailed southward, rounding the SaltPan Pt beacon at 15:17 and headed off searching for downwind planing angles; but only getting good planing speeds about a third of the time. Got some good gusts along the PalmBeach shoreline recording a 17kt peak west of the seaplane base. Embarrassingly fell in 3 times in the lee of Barrenjoey as the wind that had gotten me down there rapidly faded. Wind peaked at about 8kt on the slow work back, fading to about 3kt at dusk, and of course more or less zero at sunset, at about 400m northwest of TaylorsPt. Rocked the Phantom377 from side to side most of the way back to SaltPanWharf arriving 18:22 with cold and numb hands an hour after dark.

Sailing at night, how did you attach your navigation lights?

Well I finally dug out the GT-31 after not using it for maybe 10 years. I charged 'er up and stuck it in my pocket while I walked from Salt Pan Cove wharf round to the old Fuel Wharf at RPAYC. I was surprised (not sure why) with how accurate it is showing me walking along the road.

It looks like the signal dropped out while I was walking under the trees down Mitala St. but I guess that just means I'll need to make sure I don't sail under any trees while windsurfing!

All in all a good experiment, now I just have to remember to use it
