It would seem that the AWA has done some great re-negotiating with the current insurance provider and now reports that wingfoil racing is NOW covered by the insurance policy!

We would like to now re-include wingfoil as a racing class within the NSW Foil series - I will update the NOR & SI to reflect this.

I would call out to wingfoilers to see what type of racing they would like to see. I'm guessing that sailing around the windfoil course (windward return) is not exactly what suits the class? Maybe a shortened course? Please discuss here.....

Next round of the series is at Marmong on Lake Macquarie - a location with quite a few wingfoilers, so maybe we can work it out there?

OK, round 2 of the series is this Saturday (29th Oct) at Marmong on Lake Macquarie. Normal times as follows;

Times : Registration 10:30 - 11:00 am. If you have registered online then this will be very quick, however if you haven't registered online then paperwork & payment needs to done.
Briefing : 11:00am
First possible race : 12:00 noon.

The forecast is quite changeable but it may be a NE'er, however previous visits to the club have nearly always provided good racing conditions irrespective of the forecast.

As mentioned above we are adding the wing foil class to the series. If any wing foilers turn up we will chat about what is the best race configuration for this class.

Another discussion point is to change the current IQ95 (or IQ Foil) division of the windfoil class to a "9m division" which would mean that the strict IQ foil class rules would not have to be adhered to. What I'm thinking about here are the mast, boom and extension restrictions. So the division would be :

One sail : 9m (8m for ladies), any brand mast & boom
One board : Any (<= 1m wide)
One foil kit : 900 front wing, 2 fuselages, any one tail wing, 95cm mast

This would make for more competitors eligible for this division. The already established Open & Freeride divisions would still exist.
Let's chat about this before racing on Saturday.

Also note that all competitors MUST be a current member of a WNSW affiliated club (or affiliated to AWA if from another state) to race in the series. In other words your name must be on the AWA list (see www.windsurfing.org.au).

Agree with Brett max sail 9 max mast length 95cm keep it simple.
the use of different size foils instead of different length fuselage should be allowed to widen the range of sail to sailor weight ratios.

yep ; the guys on the boat did a fantastic job in tricky conditions.
it is really good to have the IQ guys there, it was a fun day on and off the water.

Results after round 3 - I've post here as well to keep it in the one thread.

Round 3 :


There series, after 3 rounds;

Round 4 of the series is this Saturday (16/01/21) at Marmong, on Lake Macquarie.

All the details are as before : registration from 10:30 - 11:00, briefing at 11:00, first possible race at 12:00.

Please use the online payment system at www.windsuringnsw.com for those sailors that haven't entered for the season.

Please use the club's QR code/ COVID check in on your arrival - the code is near the club's front entrance. Briefing will be outside side the club and ensure normal social distancing , etc during the day.

Long range forecast looks like moderate wind from the SSE, so should be good racing!

A big thanks to the Marmong crew for hosting round 4 of the series last Saturday.
The wind was playing difficult swinging from SSW to SE and puffing up and down. We had 28 competitors for the day which is an excellent turnout.
Unfortunately the first attempt at a race was halted after 1 lap due to a failing breeze so this will only count as a "fun race" and not to the overall series result (see below).
As always, if you spot an anomaly with the results let me know.
I'll put the series results (to date) in the next post.

Hey Bushfire,
I am curious as to the Wing Foiler response to the Foil racing?
Has there been any contact or racers show up to any of the races?
I am currently working hard on my up wind skills to come and join in at Kurnell in February, just to test the waters in a racing environment.
Any response would be appreciated, negative or otherwise.
