good think i stuck the formula gear on the car just before heading to meerkat. I havent taken it out for a proper sail in 2-3 months & clocked 48km's today (both distance & speed PB), now cant move
Dead flat water & around 10-18knots, didnt drop off the plane once.

Meerkat. I wondered what that spot was. I saw someone out there a few days ago when it was 35knots W. It looks like it could be a pretty good spot for NW/W/SW. Are there any hazards like jumbo jets, police, or urchins etc? Whats the best wind direction?

I would hazard a guess that the fencing is for the construction of the new container berth which will be starting very soon. They hope to have it operational by 2012. Not a very big image, but looks like the berth could mean the end to windsurfing in this location, and an end to a few other activities as well.....

Yaralla Rd Putney goes to the water. The beach is between the Yaralla Rd and Concord & Ryde Sailing Club.

Yes it was gusty but what place in Sydney isn't gusty in a westerly?

You could have driven half an hour and sailed on botany bay , crazy!!!!

I saw a sailor out there last week (one arvo during the week). looked like he was having a good time - not an inviting spot but I've sailed worse - might give it a go if we get a westerly on a weekend - only 3k's from were I live - we can't all live near the coast.
Not sure I would sail there in summer though to many active bull sharks!

Personally I think Kurnell is probably the only half decent place in a westerly in Botany Bay. That adds a HUGE amount of travelling time. Foreshore has its documented problems, Kyeemagh is offshore, Sandringham may be ok, haven't looked there in a westerly yet but the runs would be pretty short. Anywhere else Krusty?

If the westerly has any north in it, go to kurnell, if it has any south in it go to la perouse, case closed.

What Dan said is pretty spot on, but there is another top westerly spot that no one sails much. The very north part of cronulla beach, "Boat Harbour" is cross shore in a westerly and has very smooth water and clean wind not very gusty. This would be by far the best westerly spot I have ever sailed in sydney. However it does have a few problems, it costs $18 to drive into the park (its a privately owned 4wd park), you need a 4wd to get to the beach (you dont really the sand is so damn hard but the ranger wont let you past the beach entrance) but alternatively you can drive to the 2wd car park and then walk about 200m to the water this will still cost $18.
