I had a bit of a glitch yesterday. Wearing the watch just above the right elbow, but with a loose spray jacket on. When I bent my arm, the bunched up spray jacket pushed the "gps" button in. First time it did it, it turned the unit off on me, so I locked it with the "mode start" buttons. Then towards the end of my session the unit had locked up with the "press start mode" message permanently on the screen. When I got home I noticed a bit of condensation on the window. Asked Roger what the best thing to do is. And the answer is to clamp the buttons down in a warm dry environment. So I've got mine in some black plastic by the window with a sachet of silica gel for company.

So the advise, not to operate buttons under water is very important. Pressing the buttons allows the unit to breath!

So in future I'm only going to push buttons when the unit is dry.
And wear the watch on my upper forearm where the buttons can't be pushed.

Plastic bag in the sun with silica jell seems to have worked. Had a great sail yesterday with the watch on my forearm, well away from any chance of button activation.
+/- values very similar to the GW52 on my head, on both tacks. But this time the underhand grip was slightly better than the overhand. On the beach it looked like I had the watch at the best angle for both, there isn't a lot of movement at the middle forearm anyway. But on the beach maybe I'm misjudging the actual sailing angles. A bit more experimentation needed perhaps.

I think the forearm puts the watch at a better angle for viewing while sailing as well.

The Gw52 still gave me higher numbers than the watch though, (by up to 0.50knts) even though the SDoP values were similar.
