5. GPS Track Setup ? 2 seconds
Interval: Track setup in GPS must be at 2 second interval. Distance: This setting is not allowed anymore because it can give too much variation in the track and we want to have one single setting so there can be no discussion about the speeds. AUTO: Never use the AUTO function or save a track in your GPS. This way you will loose valuable track data. WAAS: Also do not use the WAAS function. In some areas of the world this has caused problems with the tracks.
Any posted session that is based on a track that has been at AUTO setting, has too much variation and/or spikes can be discarded by a RTK. If you are not sure about a track then first contact your RTK before posting a session.

To compete in Hardie's Speed Challenge (until he decides to announce who the REAL sponsor is), you MUST set your GPS to 2 seconds between data points?
Is this right?

A note for poor relative, cut your lines down to 2 metres and you can sneak along with the speed freaks

Hardie you are a very naughty boy, I told you not to touch that button. Once the red light stops flashing stick your head between your legs and kiss your bum goodbye! The unit is set up for 1 second intervals on the data saved to the on board flash memory. For the data saved to the SD card it is set at 1 sec intervals also. Pay no attention to the 2 second settings from GPSSS, they are for the Garmin units which don't have the same level of accuracy as the GT-11 and produce too many spikes on the 1 second setting. I think you need to set your own rules, the GT-11 isn't approved for use at GPSSS, talk to Slowboat he is up to speed on the units and knows how they work. Let me know if you need a guide so sailors can make sure their units are set correctly.

Working on the gps guide as we speak bossman Hardie, will be ready by the end of the weekend sir!
If any sailors wish to visit the Gorge this summer/your winter and be part of Roo's Gorge Cowboys let me know. I'm sure I can find a tent to put you up in and some speed gear to scare you silly on. May even sneek in a trip to the mythical ARooBar! Would be happy to provide a trophy for the fastest individual software speed recorded on a NAVi GT-11.

The GT-11 IS approved for use on GPS-SS on trial and results from it are being accepted on that basis. Setting is the 1 second setting for this GPS.
A couple of other GPS models that come to mind that should be allowed are the Garmin Edge (1 second setting) and the Garmin Legend Cx (1 second setting), both of which are more accurate than the Foretrex (but perhaps not quite so user friendly) and may be owned by some people .
The Navi GT-11 is the better choice for those who who don't yet have a GPS.
