If there any plans to adding 500 meters run to team challenge scoring parameters:
My members just ask 4 it :)
I wouldn't think so. The team challenge is pretty well balanced at the moment with a bit of everything for everyone to keep the states fairly even. Adding a new division would run the risk of upsetting that balance and biasing it towards one or two venues, probably in favour of Victoria.
If you are thinking individual rankings, that is not the prime philosophy behind the GPSTC, and I think we should continue to focus on the unique team aspect of The Challenge. The 500m distance is featured in the individual rankings of GPS-Speedsurfing. If that is your interest, post there. GPS-SS can easily give individual rankings by spot(venue) and country as well.
Here you go. This is the current 500m ranking from GPS-SS. All comers:
Here is the Australian ranking. You need to be a Gold Member to access this one:
Hmmm.... I wonder where you have to go in Australia to set a good 500m speed?![]()
If you nail a good 500 it's always good to chuck that in the comments, just like you would if you had, say, a 40 on the screen they dropped back to 39 on the 2 sec.
On the subject of the Aust ranking, it would be useful if you could filter out Sandy Point and see what you were left with!
I can't find a way to just filter out Sandy Point from the Australian 500m ranking but you can get a ranking for any single venue, like for instance Burrum Heads:
Hi Daffy and Bender,
I think to keep the balance fair, now we have no speed spots in SA - lose the 2 sec and 5 x 10 sec and leave everything else.![]()
Hey SA guys, what's Sellicks Beach like for speed sailing when the gully winds are firing? Obviously you'd need a day with no swell..
and hopefully we can tempt you back again. ![]()
Interesting to see where the best Nautical Miles have been done in Australia. Sandy Point comes in at 24th @30.51 knots. ( Al Green)
MVP comes in with the best at 36.52 knots from Burrum Heads and Hardies Run features prolifically with 10 out of the top 15 rankings.![]()
i think that was the run mvp did when cyclone hamish was brushing the coast. it was meant to be 40 knots but only came in at 25-30
if it had of really blown i'm guessing we would have seen the potential.
Yes. From what I have seen, Burrum Heads run will be sensational when it next gets the required amount of wind from the right direction.
I think it has by far the best Nautical Mile potential of all the accessible spots in this country.
(Now that Clayton is gone
)
^ hey, what the!

looks like the pit does have the goods![]()
Here is my selective 500 meter stats from the GPSSS site.
Western Aus States (pop 22 million), 19 sailors over 40 knots for 500 meters. ![]()
In the far poorer, smaller Eastern Island State (NZ),
with no "Sandy Point status" & no "consistent wind"
~ 8 sailors have exceeded "40 knots for 500 meters".
5 of those 40 knots Sailors used KA Koncepts & 5 home made boards,
What is most surprising from the homeland of Carbon Art,
Not one Sailor used a Carbon Art speed board.
All but bar 1 of these 500 meters was recorded many moons/ 500 meters ago.![]()
For GTC to be fairer, 500m should be included!
If the Far Eastern State weather returns back to normal,
NZ may be able to compete in the GTC & the 500 meter will make it fairer comp.
We know 500m! Its here to there.
Time of 10 seconds, can't see, can't feel!.....
Bring on 500m to the GTC!
Tradition can not be discarded!
I also think 500m is also important. It doesn't have to be high ranked, but it will be great if it is shown.
Ok, Sandy is great, but there are also other countries that compete, and we are fighting like crazy to reach 30 on 500 meters, and we will never be as fast as you on Sandy, but it is great to know difference.
